Has anyone-- [She begins, and then stops, gaze lowering a moment. It's a question she shouldn't have to ask. She knows he's gone, can feel it, but maybe he's not gone entirely. Maybe they just moved him to a new god, again. Maybe there's still hope.

So she takes a breath, sighs, and tries again.] Has anyone seen Hakkai? His phone's disconnected. And... I can't feel him anymore... But I thought, maybe, he'd just gone to another god, or... [She makes a helpless gesture and shrugs, shaking her head. 'I don't know,' she seems to be saying.]

If not then I'm afraid he's probably-- Gone. Entirely. [And damn if that doesn't absolutely gut her to say. She's always been good at masking her emotions, but she closes her eyes here and takes a breath, giving herself away entirely to just how badly it effects her.]

I haven't been here long but my god vanished before I ever got to meet him which makes me wonder: what the hell is a shinki good for? What are we supposed to do? Is there any point in serving a god if they can just vanish?

[ Kairi and Yukine both look worn out and stressed. They'd each been holding a Borderline active for a very long time, relatively speaking, on top of the emotional strain of the confession they heard and the empathy they tried to give back.

The backdrop will tell anyone who knows the area that they're not far from Hakkai's school, just not directly inside it anymore. Kairi speaks first. ]

This message is for my fellow shinki specifically, although I hope gods will be sensitive to this as well. I know that we as shinki struggle with the knowledge that our gods can feel things we feel. It's not something we can change, though. The biggest thing they can feel from us... is guilt. You might have heard it called by another name: blight.

Blight is... it's like this acid on your skin. It hurts. Guilt makes the blight appear, but you can also get it by touching someone who's blighted. That goes for touching blighted gods and shinki both, but it also goes for touching ayakashi, which are nothing but blight. There's a way to reverse really bad blight - the guilt kind, because holy water can fix the kind you get by touching someone.

It's called an ablution. It's not easy and it's definitely not painless and it requires the support of your god as well as three strong shinki friends.

[ She'd started to get a little hysterical in her description of how much effort goes into an ablution, but then she pauses to take a breath. Her voice gets quieter, more purposeful. ]

... I need you all to hear this: I have witnessed two ablutions now, and participated in one of them. It's awful what someone has to go through during that, and it's awful to watch it too.

So please, if you start to feel some blight, don't hide it and refuse to talk to your shinki or god about it. It doesn't just go away like a bad cold. It gets worse and worse and worse.

[Yukine edges into frame, the bags under his eyes and tight expression worth more than a few words on their own.]

I've been telling you guys from the start to get along with your gods. This is a part of it... a part I'd hoped none of you'd have t' see. But it's happened.

When you do something you feel guilty over, admit it. Pretending to smile and acting like everything's fine does neither you or your god any good. Talk about it, fight about it. [He gives a jagged smile as he adds in a low voice,] You can go a bit crazy. Gods don't die so easily.

But after getting it all off your chest then apologize and start fresh.

... Shinki are spirits. We're just across the line from ayakashi. We're human... none of us are perfect. The darkness... is always by our side. So be careful. Don't let it in.

... Damn. That's all I have to say. I'm going to go sleep for a few dozen hours now.

[ Kairi leans a little then, like she would have given Yukine a hug but thought better of it, so he gets a shoulder lean instead. ]

Yukine brought up a good point too. Since our gods feel all this stuff, but "don't die so easily"? They're basically going through the ablution too. They're hurting just like their shinki is.

[ But she doesn't leave the focus on Yukine by that point, knowing without voicing it that he'd been on the other side of the ablution before. That had come up earlier today. So she stands back up straight and pulls her phone back so that he can leave. It's getting late, after all. ]

So that's our warning. Please take care of yourselves and your shinki friends. And please be understanding if you see some blight, offer to help with it or tell someone who can help. I know it's scary.

It seems that I require advice.

Recently, I was... unable to control my emotions in my god's presence. He said something that aroused a suspicion in me, though without the truth of my memory, I cannot easily explain why. The way that he reacted to what he felt from me... now leads me to question what I assumed in that moment.

I have not been able to learn if he was blighted at all, but I suspect he may have been. It seems unlikely that he didn't cry.

I understand that damage of this sort is a risk to god and shinki when we are called on to fight together. What I ask of you, then, is this:

How am I to amend it?

[[OOC: TRIGGER WARNING, especially if your character digs at what made him suspicious and uncomfortable, for potential discussion of sexual and domestic abuse! He doesn't remember any of the abuse survivors he encountered through his work in life on a conscious level, of course, but what made him get all upset was basically misunderstanding a situation as potentially sexual and then hearing "not taking no for answer." I know everybirdie is really busy and there's been a lot going an lately but I've been thinking a lot about what happened at the party.

[Hiyoko is well aware that a lot of other stuff happened right after and there were plenty of gods and shinki still dealing with the fallout from that. That's why she gave it a few days. But now it's time to see if anybirdie else is thinking along the same lines as her.]

That fire was obviously set by people who aren't happy with Amaterasu. I'm not sure if it's her they don't like, or if she's put some unpopular policies in place, but we can't really ignore an attack like this. Has this group tired anything like this before? Have they made any other demands?

[Because 'down with Amaterasu' is one thing, but 'down with the heavens?' What are they supposed to do? Start hurling their temples at the near shore? That demand is way too vague.]

I also heard about an incident with poisoned chocolates. That was before I got here but the whole thing sounded pretty fishy. Does anybirdie else think that might have been an attempt to discredit Amaterasu? And if there any other incidents like that, I wouldn't mind hearing about them.

What you guys think?

Recently, there was some talk about doing study groups for those of us that wanted to either fill the missing void of school, since we can't attend or don't feel comfortable attending for whatever reason, or who wanted to learn more from others who might be willing to share their knowledge. It can also supplement school, if you're one of the people that's decided to continue attending while we're here.

I know there's also some people who might not be accustomed to Japanese culture and language, and, judging by the posts regarding people learning about technology, might not know a lot about the current tech used here.

Personally, I'd like to learn more in general, and would be willing to share what I know with others.

It'd also be a distraction, since his shinki appears to have disappeared?

So consider this a survey on how much interest there might be in this kind of thing. And it doesn't matter if you just want to learn, or if you're just interested in sharing something you know with others. If you want to participate, let me know, and we'll see if we can't put something together.

I saw the post a little while ago asking about having more than one god, and have seen some other people mention the same. Wow, I’m surprised that it sounds like a lot of you have become nora. I really wonder what kind of situations made you do it. I’d be interested to hear about it and how many names you have now. Or for gods, how many shinki you have now.

If one was to fight a god what are some of the best techniques to do so? This is a matter of utmost importance. I have been called upon to save a fellow shinki whose god willingly subjugates and dismisses his hard working shinki. No God should treat their shinki with such disrespect and disregard.

I'm curious about this sudden influx of "pets", but this is getting ridiculous. Pigs, dragons, demons, and now whatever this is supposed to be.

I found it in my room hanging from a pile of disgusting cobwebs. I have no idea what it's for, but it appears to be a small hovering device that projects this holographic cube form. The face and "ears" disappear sometimes. It won't stop following me around so I guess it's mine now.

It gets along with the cat. I think it's supposed to be simulating one? It vibrates strangely when I touch it sometimes. Very odd.

Does anyone have any experience with the care of small, white dragons? What foods do they prefer?

What is the best way to determine their mood: head movements? Wings? Tail? Vocalizations?

Specifically, how can you tell when they are about to bite?

[Not that he's failed to tell he was about to be bitten a few times already. Of course not.

There is a picture of a small, snaky-bodied white dragon with a ruff running all the way down its long neck attached. In the picture, the dragon is flaring its wings over a plate of raw hamburger with a look of serious annoyance and its mouth wide open in a silent kyuuuu!]

[Yuuki had been doing so well.

When she wakes up on the morning of the thirteenth, there's something different. Hajime will feel it as a sense of confusion and unease, though it has yet to progress to outright stinging. It's... strange. She remembers lush greens and a blue sky that seems to stretch forever, circling around a giant tree from which the world itself seems to spring. She remembers laughter, turning to the culprit and laughing herself in sheer bliss as she takes in the world. Between the six of them, they practically have a rainbow of wings... Siune, Jun, Tecchi, Talken, Nori. She knows their names, their races, the fact that they were her comrades. But...

That's it. Just a brief glimpse into what must have been her past. A beautiful world full of friendly faces that she can't quite reach out to grasp... One that she shouldn't.

Did anyone figure out where he was from? Or what he was really doing?

That seemed like some high-level magic for a public school administrator to be throwing around.

[For all that Yukine might have been complaining about how many new shinki there are, how frequently they pop up, and how increasingly impossible it is to mentor the lot of them, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been thinking about a better way to do this.

So when you, as a new shinki (or god), come to this link on Heaven’s BBS, you will find this carefully put together list of information.
(He took the time to put this all together. You darn well better take the time to read it all.)]

Here is some useful information for the new shinki. I think the gods can get something out of this too, so they should read it also.

● Get along well with your god, as much as possible.
If you are feeling upset or anxious, it will affect your god negatively.
If you do things under a guilty conscience, you will blight your god.
Being touched by ayakashi causes blight too, so don’t do that either.
Mild blight can be cured by cleansing water from a shrine.
A lot of blight can be fatal. Let’s not find out the hard way what happens to the new shinki when their god dies. And vice-versa.

● To start, change into your vessel form when your god calls your vessel name, and return to your normal form when called by your common name.
It will happen naturally but it might feel strange. It’s better to not resist the change. (If you resist it, you’ll grow a rabbit tail.)
You can’t choose your vessel form. So whatever you turn into, work together with your god to find out the best way to be used.

● Your task is basically to help your god in what they want to accomplish as far as granting prayers.
One shinki per god is the ‘exemplar’, and as the name implies they set a good example. Gods should listen to them in particular about how to do things.

● To level up your abilities, I recommend you learn how to make a borderline as soon as possible. It usually functions as a wall between you and whatever is on the other side.
It’s easier to practice against tiny ayakashi. But do it carefully- no matter how small they are they’ll still blight you.
The borderline can also cut, but it can’t kill ayakashi. Only a shinki wielded by a god can kill them.

That’s everything I have for now. A lot of it you’ll just figure out as you go along.
