I'm Ginia, shinki to Chris and Ebisu. I found a new use for borderlines I want to share with everyone.
[Ginia, dressed in a black suit and wearing a dark green tie, smiles and waves at the camera before she begins signing. A calm alto voice provides voiceover.]
A few weeks ago, I found a journal in the library belonging to a shinki from a few centuries ago. They had a theory a borderline could fill a space in more than a vertical or horizontal configuration. It's easy for a shinki to block a hallway or window with a borderline, but what about something irregularly shaped and without damaging the space around it?
The author never figured out a practical application for the theory. They realized while the control in itself was impressive, it was rare a shinki would need to shield something to a specific shape when simply casting a borderline in front or behind the target would do.
However, borderlines don't only have to shield or cut. Studying the theory, I realized the motions were similar to my boyfriend's vessel ability. I decided to combine the two ideas into a healing spell.
[The camera angle cuts to an overhead angle. There's a person’s hand on the table, fresh cat scratches raking across the skin. Across from them, Ginia's left hand (identifiable by the red 発 on the back of her hand) drops into the halberd position for borderlines.]
Use the halberd position for borderlines and draw a line around the injury as close as possible. You want to focus on a borderline as you draw it out. You also have to draw a continuous line and this requires physical contact. This can work through clothing, but it’s better if you can see the injury to know the full shape.
[Ginia's fingers circle around the injury, a glowing line on skin left behind her fingers. She creates a closed circle and flicks her fingers toward the center of the circle as it’s completed, her right hand signing "Line!" The circle glows as it covers the scratches.]
Once you cast the borderline, you want to hold it and channel energy into it. You can feel when the spell is no longer healing, especially in the case of deeper injuries, but you can still maintain it. It's possible I don't have the skill yet for deeper injuries, but it could still prevent blood loss.
[Ginia releases the borderline. The glow disappears and the scratches are gone without a trace of a scar. The angle cuts back to a front view.]
The spell works on bruises, scrapes, first-degree burns, and cuts that aren't too deep. No luck with broken bones, though it'll ease the pain. It might work better on sprains. It does not work on blight and I can’t imagine it would do much for illness. It works on gods and shinki.
Thank you for your time. If you have any questions, I’ll answer as much as I can. I'll also help anyone who wants practice.
[A written transcript is included after the video.]
((ooc: For spell specifics, this is a healing spell for mild injuries (shallow cuts, bruises, light burns/blisters, sprains). This would not heal a broken bone or deep cut, but could stabilize/soothe the injury until someone with stronger healing magic could look at it. This will not treat blight or illness.
This is considered a Tier 1 shinki spell, don't forget to comment on the Shinki Spell page if your character wants to learn the spell! You don't have to comment here to learn the spell either.)
