I have a question for the shinki among us.

How important to you is your connection to your god?

If you could go without a name, and not worry about your safety or a place to stay, would you prefer to?

I'm really happy that I have a good god! He's really nice to me.
But when my first one went away I didn't want a new one...

I stayed with a friend and that was nice.

It wasn't hard but it didn't really get easier? Especially after awhile.

Well, that's good. It seems that many of us are content with our gods.

If you think of it in general, though... for instance, if something happened to your goddess, would you prefer to continue alone or find someone new?

Depends on the God's approach I suppose.

I don't like belonging to anyone much less be bound to them. My answer would be yes. I would much prefer not being tied down to any God without having to question my own safety.

While it would be nice to have security, I wouldn't know what I'd do with myself. And I still don't know who I am. I might not find out in an ordinary life.

It's not something that's a good idea to try to find out in this life, either.

To your first question: my connection with my god is the most precious treasure I have right now. I've been more fortunate than most. My god shares the same values as I do, and tries very hard to uphold the duties and responsibilities expected of a god. That's the kind of god that I'm proud to guide and serve. And I've been treated kindly by my god, and with respect.

To your second question: no. As a shinki I have powers that can help protect the living, but killing ayakashi requires a god. It would be irresponsible and selfish to turn my back on the Near Shore, not when I can do more. And having a god to guide and assist gives me meaningful purpose; I'm not a person that's satisfied to simply live without striving towards a greater good.

To tell the truth, we don't have much of a connection. I suppose I can choose not to be bound to him, but so far, he's the only one I trust not to abuse his power over me.

No, I wouldn't. I wish to be of help to someone and to humans. Without a god, I doubt I would be able to do as much.

I'd rather be free. I don't mind being tied to a god, but if I had it my way, I'd be alone.

but since we can't take out the stupid ayakashi on our own, I guess it's moot.

You can always fight other things on your own.

Those corpses, for instance.

It's only the ayakashi that shinki and gods need one another's help for.

I'm afraid that they can't be. It's not a matter of a conflict.

Really, though, I'm asking in order to help someone else with a decision they're making. My perspective is only one perspective, after all.

It's weird. I think I'd like to be free to enjoy my afterlife but I have a weird feeling of uneasiness.

But it's hard to say whether that's just my personality! Some of us seem not to have that feeling.
