I have a question for the shinki among us.

How important to you is your connection to your god?

If you could go without a name, and not worry about your safety or a place to stay, would you prefer to?

To not have to worry about someone having control over you, for instance.

To be able to choose your own path freely.

I'm really happy that I have a good god! He's really nice to me.
But when my first one went away I didn't want a new one...

I stayed with a friend and that was nice.

It wasn't hard but it didn't really get easier? Especially after awhile.

I don't think it's the same if a third party did it like that... The situation doesn't feel the same.

That's right.
A lot of my friends worried about me.
Especially after someone was taken away by another god...
Even if I was okay and my friends were helping me I didn't want them to worry about me.
It was kind of scary too.
So even if I wasn't really ready for a new god, I let one of my friends name me. I felt kind of bad at first. But I feel a lot better now!

Sometimes you can't stop it.

If you think about it, though, most of us haven't chosen the gods we're with. We've been assigned to them in the first place.

I'm his only shinki. He needs me.

If I were assigned, I would have been told where to go. Axel-sama came to find me himself. If they assigned us, then it seems logical to make sure that we don't run off, or at least know who to find to explain things to us.

I understand they run an inefficient system but there has to be limits.

Axel-sama found me. I'm meant to be his. If he disappeared without warning, I'd make another god help me find him again.

You say that it was scary. Were you worrying that a god would name you against your will?

Or did it just feel unsafe not to have one?

[It's close -- not exactly the same, but close -- to the way Hakkai had felt, after Elsa left and before he'd asked Gojyo for a new name. He hadn't worried about other gods, or his own safety, but he'd felt strangely bereft with no name. As though he had no place to exist in.]

Without a god, it's hard to say that we'd be shinki, either.

You would have to find your own purpose. Like any living person.
