Does anyone know what the best way to get a gun would be? I suppose I could simply steal one from the Near Shore, but it doesn't seem right.

If anyone is willing and able to provide a gun, I can pay you in good fortune of some sort; I have some control over that as a god. I don't really have much money here in the Far Shore, even if I was rich while I was alive...

Something effective from short to mid-range. So ideally either a handgun or a shotgun, I suppose. Something like a rifle would be overkill.

I'd go handgun over shotgun; easier to carry and conceal.

Hypothetically, you could buy one in the United States of America. You'd have to look up individual state laws to find the one with the laxest laws in regards to purchasing. Same for ammo as well.

That requires money, which I don't really have...my money was left back in the Japan of my own world, and I don't really have any now. If I did, I'd have to get it converted...besides, assuming I could hold the attention of any mortals long enough, isn't ID required for buying guns? Obviously I don't have any ID that would be considered valid...

It's a shame. Amaterasu's shinki provide us with weapons for training quite regularly, but I've never seen them offer firearms. And really, not everyone's cut out for physical combat with more traditional weapons...

Well, the recent incident in the forest made me realize that my shinki's vessel form is one of my only real weapons. I have a knife I took from one of the training sessions Amaterasu's shinki arranged, but I'm not a very strong or healthy person, so I'm not able to do all that much with it. I thought a gun would allow even someone like me to be able to defend themselves, or attack a threat, better.

Not to mention that it's a ranged weapon, so while it's not going to destroy any ayakashi, it might at least deter them from getting close while letting me keep my distance from them.

Don't most people need guns for pretty much the same reasons...?

But it's mostly because my shinki's vessel form is currently my best weapon, and he was taken from me when people disappeared into the forest recently. Having a fallback option seems pretty important after that.

You do know normal weapons wouldn't be able to do any good against an ayakashi, don't you? The least it can do is probably scare it off. At the worst, firing at one would only make it madder.

I managed to acquire one recently. It was actually recommended to me by my shinki after he learned I was a good shot during my life.

What exactly do you plan to use it for? Aside from "shoot things"

I'm glad you specified! Some people seem genuinely confused why someone would want a gun...

As I mentioned to other people, though, it would be an option for self-defense or potential offense when my shinki is indisposed. Currently he's my only form of weaponry outside of a hunting knife, and as the incident with the forest showed, if something happens to him, I'm kind of at a loss...and I'm too frail to be much good at fighting with a knife, even if I learned how. So obviously a weapon that doesn't rely on my physical strength seems the way to go.

Unfortunately, I've been told that guns are often 'frowned upon' here. Which, I suppose, I can understand when you consider the nature between a god and their shinki's vessel.

Perhaps they feel offended that an alternate weapon would be used when the ones provided to us were meant to suffice.

That being said...if you have sufficient training, and your reasoning holds true to what you've just told me, then it should not be too great of an issue. I was able to demonstrate some of my own skills at a previous temple training session, though I kept my target at a fair distance so as to minimize the risk of accidents. The next large gathering, you would be welcome to join me, if you like.

A handgun or shotgun, preferably. Something effective at decent range, but not necessarily something as long range as a hunting rifle.

Handgun would be easier since I don't trust those not trained to use shotguns with one. They have more kick than movies show, and if you're not careful, could easily wrench something out of place.

No actual problem, really, but my shinki would probably be upset. Besides, if I can barter for one, why not do that?

Of course, this is to find out if I can barter for one. If not, I think my shinki will understand if I don't have any better options...

Well, I've already answered this question before, but - it'd be a weapon and means of attacking or defending myself without relying on the presence of my shinki! He's my only weapon right now aside from a hunting knife, and I was deprived of him during the recent forest abductions. And a knife can be an effective weapon, but I'm not really healthy enough to rely on a weapon that requires physical strength or exertion. A gun seems like a good solution.
