I'm Ginia, shinki to Chris and Ebisu. I found a new use for borderlines I want to share with everyone.
[Ginia, dressed in a black suit and wearing a dark green tie, smiles and waves at the camera before she begins signing. A calm alto voice provides voiceover.]
A few weeks ago, I found a journal in the library belonging to a shinki from a few centuries ago. They had a theory a borderline could fill a space in more than a vertical or horizontal configuration. It's easy for a shinki to block a hallway or window with a borderline, but what about something irregularly shaped and without damaging the space around it?
The author never figured out a practical application for the theory. They realized while the control in itself was impressive, it was rare a shinki would need to shield something to a specific shape when simply casting a borderline in front or behind the target would do.
However, borderlines don't only have to shield or cut. Studying the theory, I realized the motions were similar to my boyfriend's vessel ability. I decided to combine the two ideas into a healing spell.
[The camera angle cuts to an overhead angle. There's a person’s hand on the table, fresh cat scratches raking across the skin. Across from them, Ginia's left hand (identifiable by the red 発 on the back of her hand) drops into the halberd position for borderlines.]
Use the halberd position for borderlines and draw a line around the injury as close as possible. You want to focus on a borderline as you draw it out. You also have to draw a continuous line and this requires physical contact. This can work through clothing, but it’s better if you can see the injury to know the full shape.
[Ginia's fingers circle around the injury, a glowing line on skin left behind her fingers. She creates a closed circle and flicks her fingers toward the center of the circle as it’s completed, her right hand signing "Line!" The circle glows as it covers the scratches.]
Once you cast the borderline, you want to hold it and channel energy into it. You can feel when the spell is no longer healing, especially in the case of deeper injuries, but you can still maintain it. It's possible I don't have the skill yet for deeper injuries, but it could still prevent blood loss.
[Ginia releases the borderline. The glow disappears and the scratches are gone without a trace of a scar. The angle cuts back to a front view.]
The spell works on bruises, scrapes, first-degree burns, and cuts that aren't too deep. No luck with broken bones, though it'll ease the pain. It might work better on sprains. It does not work on blight and I can’t imagine it would do much for illness. It works on gods and shinki.
Thank you for your time. If you have any questions, I’ll answer as much as I can. I'll also help anyone who wants practice.
[A written transcript is included after the video.]
((ooc: For spell specifics, this is a healing spell for mild injuries (shallow cuts, bruises, light burns/blisters, sprains). This would not heal a broken bone or deep cut, but could stabilize/soothe the injury until someone with stronger healing magic could look at it. This will not treat blight or illness.
This is considered a Tier 1 shinki spell, don't forget to comment on the Shinki Spell page if your character wants to learn the spell! You don't have to comment here to learn the spell either.)

Buuuut. There's something about this that really sticks out to her. And which is much more important to talk to Ginia about. So-- ]
Your.. boyfriend's vessel ability? [ Nosy, nosy. ]
Text
Yes, that's right. He turns into a kitchen knife and can "cut" out injuries.

[ Judging from how genuine her reaction is, it seems the teasing is totally going over Minako's head.. or rather, she doesn't seem to realise it's teasing to begin with. ]
It's not the last two words that are important, it's the one before that!
no subject
Sorry, couldn't resist teasing.
Yes, I have a boyfriend. His name is Kimi. He also works at Ebisu's temple.
What do you want to know?

I've learned my own singing can, as a god, provide a sort of healing effect of its own. Which admittedly is rather odd for Susanoo, but I feel like it befits my own ideals.
Having yet more people capable of such things is sort of gratifying and is sure to give people a better feel for things on the battlefield.
no subject
That's why I wanted to share it as soon as I knew I could teach it to others. With how things have been, more people able to heal (even if only themselves) helps everyone.
I also admit there might be some personal motivations for this too.
no subject
But yes, it absolutely helps everyone.
...would it be prying too much to ask what motivations those may be?
no subject
If I can heal myself, I don't have to bother others, right? I know I can't handle every injury, but it's a start, right?
And it's selfish, but if I disappear tomorrow, maybe I made a difference. Maybe no one will remember my name in a century, but if the spell lives on and is useful, it means something.
[There's a pause before another message follows.]
Also another shinki told me I might be able to make a spell after decades of learning, so to him, I say suck it.

It doesn't require knowing or saying a specific name to cast it? Just casting a borderline?
no subject
No name needed as far as I can tell. It feels like casting and holding any other borderline, though it takes more energy and control than a normal borderline. More focus is needed too. I think anyone who can cast a borderline with any regularity and hold it for more than a minute can learn this technique.
no subject
You must be very good at borderlines to be able to figure something like this out and put it into practice.
I think I'd like to try learning this. If I get stuck at some point, would it be okay to contact you about it?

[Thank goodness other people are creative like this... Although now Garry is wondering something else.]
There's nothing stopping that from working on gods, is there...?
Text
I tried the spell on a god and it worked as well as on myself or another shinki. Since borderlines work on gods, I'd be surprised if it didn't work on them as well.

Is there a time that would be good to meet up to help with practice for this sort of thing? I think I could probably figure it out on my own but it would be nice to have another set of eyes.

Congratulations, Ginia! How exciting! Do you think it's a very difficult spell--
[ Then she stops herself. ]
Well, no, it's just an application of Borderline isn't it? So it should be quite easy to teach alongside the halberd, knife, and shield styles...
Text
I don't think it's any harder to learn than other borderline forms, but it takes more energy since you have to hold the borderline. I think it'd be good for someone to learn after they can hold a borderline for more than a minute.

Speaking of - what do you think you'll call this style?
