the mysterious as fuck whims of this place have recently bestowed on me
a sickass turntable set
which i seem to be pretty fucking good with if i do say so myself

i keep hearing about shinki spells
and also theres some flyers about them around now i guess
but lets have some personal anecdotes first
how actually useful are the spells we can learn
or are they just kind of arbitrary bullshit powers

I'm impressed. I had no idea you were such a talented musician.

As for the spells, I'd say that their arbitrary bullshit quotient is lower than most magic I have encountered. I only know a few basic techniques myself, though.

What gave me away? Personally, I only know Bind, but I've invited a few more experienced instructors as well. It's not something I can use now that I'm no longer a shinki, so I've been slacking off on my studies lately.

That's a nice melody. What is a turntable?
Apparently the one I'm representing is Gallo-Roman. Not that I'm entirely sure of what that is.
How exactly do we appear? As a "cowboy of yore" I can't say I'm not curious.

a turntable is kind of like
i dont know if youve seen records here
theyre big round flat things with grooves that we record music on
you put a needle in the grooves and it kind of reads them
and spits out the music through a speaker
theyre outdated but if you have a turntable you can take advantage of the needle groove thing
and use your hands to mess with the record while its playing to make the music different
which is called remixing
usually youll have at least two records going at once if youre using a turntable

also have you watched any western movies while youve been here
cowboys in those always turn up in some kind of dramatic silhouette against the rising or setting sun
on horseback with the generic hollywood trappings of what we think a cowboy is these days

We call phonograph cylinders recorders, but the description you’re giving makes it sound more like phonograph records. But those are still new in my time.
Wouldn’t moving the records while the needle is on ruin the record? That’s why you have to be careful when you listen, so the needle doesn’t cause scratches and ruin it.
I haven’t really watched any movies at all, and I’m not sure I’ll like to see those about the cowboy days. The making of one I stumbled on the other day didn’t impress me.
Gaul? I don’t know where that is, though I have met a Roman before. It seems they were involved in a lot of fighting. Five centuries is a long time, when a lifetime isn’t even one.

I don't think the spells are arbitrary bullshit powers. They're pretty definable. Either way there's things like Bind, or Silence, or Truth. They can probably be pretty useful at times.

kind of helped me figure out what the hole in my stomach was for

general consensus seems to be the spells are actually useful
whoever names them needs a bit more imagination but at least theyre easy to remember i guess
