the mysterious as fuck whims of this place have recently bestowed on me
a sickass turntable set
which i seem to be pretty fucking good with if i do say so myself

i keep hearing about shinki spells
and also theres some flyers about them around now i guess
but lets have some personal anecdotes first
how actually useful are the spells we can learn
or are they just kind of arbitrary bullshit powers

[There they go. Davesprite remembered seeing at least one girl at that performance, and he's pretty sure it wasn't Demyx.]

Alright, new, is she primed better for certain genres, or are you more comfortable programming her for certain genres, or what should I be going for here.

[He's still finishing up connecting everything together, but he'll be done soon.]

She can handle pretty much anything, but I guess j-pop is probably gonna be the easiest.

[Which should have been pretty obvious from the get-go. Right now Barry's messing around with her outfit, dressing her up like a magical girl.]

Is not-j pop an option as well, because I haven't gotten myself real familiar with the genre hallmarks over here.

[Mostly because Davesprite isn't enormously into pop in the first place. In any case, after a few more moments of screwing around with wires, he straightens up, running a talon over one of his turntables.] Alright, I think we're set.

Sure thing! Like I said, she's real versatile.

[The outfit is staying just like it is, though.]

Alright, I'll do my best, though I'm warning you right now that pop isn't really a genre I deal in that often.

[Still, he's pretty sure he's got some samples that qualify.] Give me like five minutes to run through my shit and see what samples sound good to add in.

[Even if he's making something new out of them, having those snippets there makes fleshing out the music a lot easier, and if this is going to be a half-hour hack job, he kind of needs to take what he can get.]

Everybody's gotta challenge themselves sometime.

[Barry grins, stepping away from his laptop to check out Davesprite's setup, watching closely.]

I mean, fair, but there's kinda no point working that much in a genre you don't really like.

[He's still running through his samples for the moment, occasionally stopping to drag something into his sound program. It seems like pretty focused work, though the reason for that reveals itself before long as he fluffs his wings up and frowns.]

I think I'm gonna have to go a bit on the fly here anyway, I don't have a hell of a lot that actually works straight-up for pop music rather than esoteric electronic shenaniganry.

Hey, like I said, go with whatever. Tiki's real versatile, so she can roll with whatever ya come up with over there.

[Barry starts working to come up with a good song on his own program while Davesprite is tinkering on his end.]

It's probably gonna be electropop, I'm already pulling what I can for something upbeat. [But for the moment, he lapses into quiet as he starts digging through his files a little more in earnest. He needs to fill this thing out, not just get a good rhythm.

Pulling on his headphones, he sets to work properly. Even if it's a half hour hack job, it doesn't have to be hack quality, and he spends that time doing just about everything he can to piece the tracks together effectively.]

[And meanwhile, Barry's arranging notes on the staff, testing every once in a while to make sure he's got the pitch right. Next will be lyrics, but he needs to make sure he's tuned the voice correctly first.]

[Eventually, Davesprite pulls his headphones off, apparently satisfied with his work. It's not the best thing he's ever done, but for half an hour, he's totally fine with that being the case.

Leaning over, he looks at what Barry's got open on his screen.] How's shit going in la-la land over here.

Just about set.

[He places a few more notes, and then hits play.]

How's this?

[Barry hasn't been listening to Dave's music, of course, so he's just made a guess at what will sound good with it.]

[It doesn't align perfectly, but considering they were both doing their work independently, it lines up surprisingly well. Davesprite seems to consider for a moment before checking out the interface.]

Maybe slow it down a little and shift the key. It's pretty good otherwise. [Hopefully something like that isn't too hard to fix on a voice program like this.]
