the mysterious as fuck whims of this place have recently bestowed on me
a sickass turntable set
which i seem to be pretty fucking good with if i do say so myself

while im here
i keep hearing about shinki spells
and also theres some flyers about them around now i guess
but lets have some personal anecdotes first
how actually useful are the spells we can learn
or are they just kind of arbitrary bullshit powers

[Sure enough, about twenty minutes later, there's a knock at the door of the studio.]

[The sound of fast and heavy footfalls can be heard, and the door flings open to reveal Barry standing there. He's apparently pretty excited for this.]

Hey, ya made it! C'mon in!

[Davesprite has his mixing stuff in his arms, so he can't exactly wave in greeting or anything, but he does swoop in as soon as he's prompted to put it down on a table.]

Yeah, I didn't get fucking wrecked enough in the last twenty minutes to miss a meeting I literally just agreed to.

Hey, y'never know around here.

[Lest they forget the bear incident.]

I've got everything set up back in the office.

I mean, an ayakashi probably would've had to eavesdrop on that conversation to be that fortuitous in shitty timing.

[And now he's wondering if ayakashi can eavesdrop on conversations. The important questions.]

[He heads toward the end of the hallway toward the back office. It's mostly clean, with some idol posters hanging up around the place and a laptop computer sitting on the desk.]

Here we go! Say hi to Tiki.

[He's got a Vocaloid-looking character loaded up on the computer.]

[Davesprite quickly sets down his equipment on the desk near the computer, though he brought his own laptop anyway. He's already got what he needs installed on his own, and it saves messing around with Barry's more than for moving the files from one computer to another.

When he glances at the screen, he ends up raising a bit of an incredulous brow.] Is this one of those anime as fuck singing software applications that internet people somehow manage to do ridiculous songwriting wizardry with.

Sure is! Ain't she cute?

[Tiki smiles and waves, spitting out some pre-recorded cute line or another.]

I just woke up one day and she was already installed. Guess I musta had this software back home.

If you're into that sort of thing, I guess. [Davesprite has never really been a "2D better than 3D" kind of guy, so he just sounds like he doesn't quite get the appeal as he starts setting up properly.]

Sounds like what happened with this stuff. Turned up a few weeks ago and I've been working with it since then.

[Barry, on the other hand, is a devoted follower of that philosophy. His enthusiasm hasn't dimmed at all in the face of Davesprite's failure to understand the wonder of virtual idols.]

I already know I used to be a trainer before, so I guess it makes sense that I'd have this kinda software.

Dude, you do know she's a computer program, right. [...Which is technically true of Davesprite in a certain sense too, but he's just going to ignore that.]

This looks more like something someone doing the performing would use, or at least writing, but hey, whatever works.

Yeah, but wait'll you hear her sing!

[Barry is undeterred.]

I guess so, but it's a lot of fun anyway. Came in real handy during the Obon show since we don't really have a lot of musicians.

I've heard synth before, my dude, I'm not expecting my mind blown. [Davesprite is rather nonchalant about the whole thing, but then, voice is about the one thing he doesn't use a computer for in making music.]

Yeah, haven't really been keeping track of the talent agency slapfight, but I didn't figure two agencies would have that many people here to split between them.

[He shakes his head like a disapproving father.]

Yeah, not so much. Me an' Demyx can both play guitar, but that's all we got.

[Turning his attention to the turntables next.]

That and I'm kind of a traditionalist on vocals if nothing else. [He doesn't feel voice translates as well to synth as other instruments do, but it's definitely a different strokes sort of thing.]

I was pretty sure there was more than two of you at that recent performance, but yeah, that's kinda shitty considering.

[In any case, he turns his attention more to getting his turntables set up with that prompting.] Are you more interested in shit I have premade or spinning something new out for pixel perfect there to sing to.

Well, that's what we got Maria and Honoka for.

[And previously You, but she's not around anymore, sadly.]

[There they go. Davesprite remembered seeing at least one girl at that performance, and he's pretty sure it wasn't Demyx.]

Alright, new, is she primed better for certain genres, or are you more comfortable programming her for certain genres, or what should I be going for here.

[He's still finishing up connecting everything together, but he'll be done soon.]

She can handle pretty much anything, but I guess j-pop is probably gonna be the easiest.

[Which should have been pretty obvious from the get-go. Right now Barry's messing around with her outfit, dressing her up like a magical girl.]
