So this is just a hypothetical question (really, I swear on my shinki status) but what if a shinki gets named by someone they don't want to be named by, or if they change their mind later and the god doesn't want to let them go, do we have to go talk to some higher up god or can we just murder the god in question and get rid of the name we want to be rid of that way?

You're speaking here of two very different situations that are bound to have different answers regarding them.

First is, shinki gets named by another God against their will. Second, shinki allows the naming to happen but changes mind about it later.

Which is it?

I am, but they’re generally the same anyway, in this case. They’re both about a name you don’t want. So, it’s about both.

It would likely be difficult for a shinki to murder someone that has named them, and it isn't guaranteed to remove the name, as the anon above mentioned. You'd be better off getting a third party- probably a god- involved on your behalf.

[And then they can murder them- or, well, threaten them until they remove the name. Whichever. Gods don't have to worry about being propped up against a wall in their vessel form and ignored anyway.]

Murdering someone is easy. But I guess there has to be a point to it. Unless the murder itself is the point, I guess. But asking a third party would be relying on someone else that you might not trust either.

Hypothetically speaking, if somebirdie is going around naming shinki against their will then somebirdie else ought to give them what for.

A god that's named you has the power to completely disable you by turning you into a vessel at a moment's notice. Trying to murder them would be ill advised, unless you have a plan to get around that somehow. Also, as others have said, killing the god won't necessarily remove the name. Gods have died and been resurrected here before, I haven't heard of them losing all their shinki in those situations. There's only a chance you'd be freed of the name, if the god doesn't come back to life after they're killed.

It would be more effective to have someone else handle the situation for you, in this case. A god would be more useful since they can't be manipulated by names. And just because you're named by them doesn't mean you have to stay anywhere, you can always leave and hide somewhere else until things blow over.

Ill advised, maybe, but not impossible. That’s why there is assassination and planning.

So what if they got killed over and over again until they stayed dead?

Because any shinki in that situation wants to be a fairytale damsel in distress and be forced to depend on somebody else to save them. I’d rather handle things myself, and I doubt I’m the only one.

Murdering your god won't work, as someone pointed above, and will most likely be met with retribution. You have better chances taking it to the authorities.

However murder should be the last possible option in any case, not the first.

Of course it is, it’s a simple, uncomplicated answer. Well, they’d have to know it was me first, and then they’d have to be able to catch me.

If there's a situation where you'd prefer but are unable to have your vessel name removed, I believe the pamphlets direct people to Amaterasu or Fuujin's temples to have the situation handled.

They are a couple of the gods that could be seen as 'in charge' here.

Murder wouldn't really work. It would probably require negotiation, but I don't think in this situation (hypothetical or otherwise) that it's likely to happen.

Don't be rash. Although hurting them might be cathartic, I guess. Or some kind of stand-in.

Hypothetically? If they feel strongly enough about the matter for murder to be an option under serious consideration, the god's at a high risk of getting blighted by those negative feelings, and it would probably be in their best interest to cut ties with the shinki anyway.

The Heavens themselves don't seem very inclined to do much about bad or forced matches, but there are definitely people here -- gods and shinki -- who are willing to do what we can for a shinki in that situation.

So blight will always be a problem? Maybe I could feel guilty on purpose then, even though I don’t think I would feel any guilt about it.

although i am still firmly opposed to allowing yourself to be named by more than one most of the time
i have come to believe that if your god is bad to a shinki and refuses to let them go
letting yourself be named by another god is acceptable

and then your new god can help you deal with the problem
