So this is just a hypothetical question (really, I swear on my shinki status) but what if a shinki gets named by someone they don't want to be named by, or if they change their mind later and the god doesn't want to let them go, do we have to go talk to some higher up god or can we just murder the god in question and get rid of the name we want to be rid of that way?

What a bother. It would be much easier to just be able to easily handle it alone.
Details, details.

Besides both situations you describe are different. Accepting the name means you accept the deal, and trying to get around it instead asking to revoke the name is a cowards' way out.
As a shinki you have no choice in chosing whom you're paired with, and if you resort to murdering your Gods, then Heavens may force additional conditions upon you. Spending your whole time here in a vessel form is another risk.

I never mentioned not asking them to revoke it first, as far as I know. It's if they refuse even if I ask that's the problem.
Is that something that has happened?

Most Gods I've met are quite reasonable, and can lend a hand if you've been wronged. You can repay favor for a favor if you dislike being indebted, but mind one thing - the system here forces you to work along others, dislikes and distrust aside.
Yes, the one that killed both Gods and shinkis had been dealt with.
[The last one isn't something Archer knows in detail, and is vague on purpose.]

I have noticed. But that doesn't mean I need to do it more than I have to.
Really now. That’s interesting.

Tough luck.

Having the same goal unifies all gods and shinki enough to offer a helping hand to those in need. Most won't stab you in the back the moment you look away. It's simply common sense.

Most. But that doesn't mean all.

Good luck. Don't cause unnecessary trouble.
