HEAVEN'S BBS | VIDEO

- [ When the video starts, it's on Souji specifically. He gives the camera a bit of a wave with the hand not holding his phone, his temple's open kitchen and dining area behind him. ]
Hello, everyone. I've been working on lists for study groups, and references for them as well as investigative notes, but I wanted to pose a different offer this time. Hence, why this post will have attachments in the form of photos rather than text this time.
[ Follow his trek, everyone, through the kitchen and under the free standing stairs, to one of his numerous tatami rooms that lead outside on the first floor. He's immediately greeted by a chorus of meows and chirps, any sort of noise a cat might make when pleased at a person, and that's where he comes to a stop. ]
I've been picking up stray cats, as well as cats from the shelter that were having a hard time finding families, and have been working on socializing them. All of them are in good health at the moment, have had all their vaccines and the like, and are fixed - except one, but more on her in a moment. You see, I've been hoping to find them permanent homes, either here or on the other Shore. Pretty much all of the ones I have are currently ready for that, so I was wondering if there was anyone that was maybe considering a cat for a companion.
Anyone that isn't homed is going to go up for adoption to the other Shore, but I figured you all could have first dibs.
If you just want to come and see them, you can do that, too. The aforementioned special cat is actually a new mother, so there are newborn kittens here now.
[ This is when he turns the phone around, camera focused on the cats around his feet. That's the end of the video!
As mentioned, there are pictures attached. What these cats look like are up to dealer's choice, if they wanted to adopt one or coo over one in particular, and Souji literally has enough variety that any picture would do.
... he also probably has enough cats for anybody that would want one. It's gotten to that point now. ]

[ Souji this is more than a lot. A lot of cats is something in the ballpark of 4-5. You have a pack. A pride of cats. You are the mother of cats. Or father? That's probably more apt... it doesn't flow as well, though, hmm. ]
Wait–
[ She pauses then, blinking in almost owlish wonder. They definitely had their own menagerie of animals that frequented the church (was it Allen or his connection to Michael that made him a creature magnet? Regardless, it had become part of her morning routine to feed everyone after training), but this was... ]
You give them breakfast? All of them? How do you afford something like that?
[ TELL HER YOUR SECRET, SOUJI. ]

At least he can do that. He doesn't have a hoarding problem. ]
A number of ways, really. I get offerings from my followers that will sometimes entail money, but Ihave a few parttime jobs on top of fulfilling prayers, and frequently go fishing just because I enjoy it. I'll either keep the fish and use the leftovers from filleting them in feeding the cats, or sell and trade them with the people at the market.

[ Before she managed to avoid staring? But now? No, now, she definitely is, looking at him in mild disbelief. She only had the one, and while things were a little tight, they didn't have quite that large a menagerie. Some birds, squirrels and other wild animals (she thought she saw a family of deer lurking the other morning), but all this to feed his family of cats... ]
That is dedication if I've ever heard it. I'm not sure that Allen or Link would appreciate me bringing home a cat, but maybe I can help out from time to time. To help lighten the load a bit.

[ So, honestly, he's pretty used to this schedule. And his jobs were to buy curative items and equipment for his teammates, which were infinitely more expensive than cat food is, even for this many cats. With a distinct lack of those things... he can afford plenty. ]
You're always welcome to come by, whether it's to help or to spend time with them in general, or to visit with the non-meowing members of the household. [ A little laugh. ]

You... fight monsters back home?
[ Yes, they were talking about other things, and yes she was getting ready to make plans to help take care of some of his cats, but this captures her attention. ]

Ayakashi here, Shadows back home. They were created by peoples' innermost emotions and thoughts, so, really, they weren't too different in a way. [ He's simplifying, but still. ]

[ She muses aloud for a moment, a hand curling at her lips and eyes cast downward before she looks at him once more. ]
What happens if you destroy a shadow, then, since they seem to be connected to a living person. I assume, at least. Unless—are they related to the souls of the departed, like us shinki?

He also privates this conversation from here on out, in the event that Naoto or any future shinki from Inaba stumble across the thread. ]
In the case of regular Shadows, they were just formed from the collective consciousness, not truly connected to any one person. They could be dangerous, but the weaker ones tended to just keep to themselves and run away from us when we grew stronger than them. Destroying them does nothing.
But Shadows that are connected to a person are their innermost thoughts, and the negative things that they repress. Rather than be random enemies in various shapes caused by the collective consciousness, they're tailored to the person in question. We've never destroyed a Shadow of this nature, due in part to the fact that they're a part of someone. Instead, the goal is to help them face their Shadows, so that they aren't fighting themselves anymore.
Admittedly, Shadows don't make it easy. They can say some pretty nasty things that you don't want other people to hear, or you don't even want to hear yourself, and fight back when rejected, changing into monsters rather like ayakashi in some cases.

...I've wondered this for a while now. It doesn't always seem to be the case with some of the others brought here to replace those gods who have suddenly gone missing. But there is a trend that I've noticed, even if you seem to be one of the more experienced individuals that I've spoken to.
[ Looking up again, she lets her hand drop. ]
I have to wonder if there might be a reason why certain people are brought here to serve as "temporary" gods rather than others, and if there isn't some sort of connection to the things that they experienced in their lives prior to coming here.

His head tilts slightly, indicating that he's listening. But then there's a little pause, and he actually looks again, and stops in the kitchen, considering that. ]
I do have to admit that it's an entirely feasible thought, to be honest. My shinki has a great deal of similar combat experience in her world, and the one I had before her had as well. [ In fact, he'd had the same experience as him - at least, the Shadows and Persona were similar. ] I even have friends from home here, two of which have been gods themselves.
Not everyone here has the same experiences, or similar ones, that have prepared them for this task. But there's no denying that many do. As if the selection process had some intent to it.
