Why is the Internet like this?
I am highly disappointed in it.
Surely there is more to it than this.

Everyone can be much better than this.
Much, much better.
Honestly.

And whoever told my god about these cellphones, I would like a word.

You do not see the way the Internet acts and how some of our colleagues act as not interfering with the flow of useful communication?

Put bluntly, no.

I can still contact whoever I want to instantaneously. And whatever nonsense gets thrown around, it doesn't get in the way of me finding more useful things quickly when I look for them.

As long as it isn't my time they're wasting, the vast majority of it isn't my problem.

while I appreciate being able to talk to people instantaneously, I do concern myself with the level of unprofessionalism that our colleagues exhibit.

Loose behavior leads to loose work ethic which leads to more work later to clean up.

I hold my shinki, my students, and my close colleagues to exacting standards. When I see this "Internet" thing affecting their performance, then it will be a problem to deal with.

But everyone needs time off, and they're free to spend that time off as ridiculously as they want if it doesn't compromise anything important.

You're the one who decided to read "lazy" into my saying that I prioritize between the things that are and aren't worthy of effort. That's common goddamn sense.

A lazy person also prioritizes what is and is not important.
It is hardly common sense as it is just deciding something that you could fix isn't your problem and so bottom of your priority list.
Which is lazy.

Pretending to be so is ridiculous.
Holding onto the belief of being close to the world is troubling and as a god that allows their Shinki to get so close and call it a waste of time to worry about it is lazy, not practical, not sensible, but lazy.
But we have only just met. I am sure you have a better personality than what I am seeing.
