So here's a question for all of you.

Say sometime in the future, a way home pops up. The stars are right, or the prayers of the world unite, or we find whatever brings us here and reverse it. Doesn't matter what, the key thing is that it won't last. You've got to decide right away. What do you do?

If you're a shinki, going home means you're dead. No more life like this that you can expect. Is it worth the gamble? What if you get stuck as a shinki in your own world, not remembering anything, no other shinki or gods? On the other hand, you stay here and you get stuck with whoever's left if your god takes off. Maybe they all do and you're off to the old gods, or unnamed. Either one's a raw deal.

Gods? You got it easy. You go back and pick up where you left off. Except you'd be leaving your shinki behind. No promise on what happens to them. Maybe they'll end up with someone okay, maybe not. Maybe even if you made an arrangement with someone who'd stay, it goes wrong. Do you just abandon them? Trust that the old gods won't be so bad?

Not saying it's going to work out this way. But it might. So what if?

But let's be real. Gods don't owe shinki anything. You didn't ask for the responsibility any more than we asked to be tools.

But I keep getting told you guys care, you're decent to us, you don't treat us like the old gods seem to treat their shinki. So yeah, I'm wondering if anyone ever gave this some thought, and what they'd do. I'm not gonna blame you for saying 'I'm going home'.

I'm not sure why you think the old gods treat their shinki any differently from the way we treat ours. As far as I can tell, there's as much variety among them as there is among us.

I personally wouldn't choose to go home alone, though.

First, they're the ones running this system of people as tools without so much as a peep. Second, they're the ones who are so old they need reminders of what it is to be mortal. Third, they haven't exactly put up a spectacular showing in anything so far.

if i were a shinki, i would go home. the chance of remembering what was lost would outweigh the uncertainty otherwise. i would not want to remain and be besieged by the uncertainty on if i had done the right thing for the rest of time.

A lot of us shinki don't even know what our world was like. I know some of us remember something, but no guarantees... So you're looking at going back to a world that might be worse, and definitely got you killed.

That just means the decision isn't quite so easy, but I get what you're saying. Some things are worth the risk of not existing any more.

You can add it into the mix. Same worries apply. You might not be able to exist there, so it could kill you for good. Add in that the trip's one-way.

It's fine if the trip is one-way, I'm dead in my world anyway, so it doesn't matter to it where I go. And if I'd be permanently killed anyway I'd rather it be on my terms.

Well we couldn't go back to my home then, could we? If I'm dead there... so... it would have to be staying here or going with him. That's what I think.

So you'd take the safest path of going with him to a place he knows. That makes sense. Probably smarter than taking a risk anywhere else.

I'm dead. I'd rather be a shinki and be dead in a loosely defined sense than magically fly off to somewhere else and be dead-dead.
