So here's a question for all of you.

Say sometime in the future, a way home pops up. The stars are right, or the prayers of the world unite, or we find whatever brings us here and reverse it. Doesn't matter what, the key thing is that it won't last. You've got to decide right away. What do you do?

If you're a shinki, going home means you're dead. No more life like this that you can expect. Is it worth the gamble? What if you get stuck as a shinki in your own world, not remembering anything, no other shinki or gods? On the other hand, you stay here and you get stuck with whoever's left if your god takes off. Maybe they all do and you're off to the old gods, or unnamed. Either one's a raw deal.

Gods? You got it easy. You go back and pick up where you left off. Except you'd be leaving your shinki behind. No promise on what happens to them. Maybe they'll end up with someone okay, maybe not. Maybe even if you made an arrangement with someone who'd stay, it goes wrong. Do you just abandon them? Trust that the old gods won't be so bad?

Not saying it's going to work out this way. But it might. So what if?

Yeah. Plus I've always enjoyed going places I've never been so, extra bonus. But in the end I can't know for sure what I would choose until it would actually be a thing, if it were to happen.

That's not bad reasoning, really.

The way I think it, this is something we all need to keep in the back of our mind. Got here real sudden, could get a chance to go just as fast, right? Sit around thinking and you might miss your shot.

Do you suppose that there is a great risk of that happening? How long do you think the window of opportunity might be in that case?

We ended up here, didn't we? Gods become shinki become gods somehow. People vanish, people show up. You want to assume anything?

Seems like things happen real quick though.

I know about that bit, believe it or not. Yeah things can happen really quickly. But it wouldn't really be assuming, it would be more like guessing about something that'll likely be wrong anyway.

Yeah, there is that. Still, I'd rather do some thinking about it ahead of time instead of having to just dive in with whatever... not that I ever doubted my choice, though.

It is a good thing to at least consider for a bit, though it's not always the easiest choice. What is your choice, then?

Better to die free than live as someone's property. Especially if that someone is an old god.

And what if it's not an old god? Besides, not all old gods consider shinki tools. Though some does, of course.

Lot of the good gods would take off if they had the chance. Means whoever's left of shinki have good odds of getting reassigned to one of the old ones.

You only get reassigned if you don't choose one for yourself. As long as you have a plan for how to deal with it and who might name you instead, then you don't have to worry about that. No one of us new shinki has been assigned to old gods as far as I'm aware either, and I think they might be uncomfortable with it as well, if that were to happen.

Yeah, now. What if there's only one or two gods who choose to stay, you think they'll just let them rack up shinki? They're passing us off because the situation is weird, but if there's an imbalance...

There may be a few more that remain than that. The old gods already has a bunch of them and it's not like all shinki will remain. But you're right, they don't generally want to make the balance between us and them fair.

And that's the point. There MAY be, but what if there's not? It's a big guess right at that moment. That's what I really wonder about. If you can't plan, if you have to just choose. What makes that decision for you?

It would depend on the current situation, both my own and others'. Personally I can't make a decision I can be100% certain of until the time comes for it. I know where I won't go, but otherwise I don't know for sure.

Yeah, I hope the decision doesn't come all sudden-like and too quick for people to think about it.

But it might.

It might, yes. But since that's hard to know for sure, we have no choice but to deal with it then. Even thinking about it beforehand might be useless, since circumstances may change.
