Quick question. What does everyone consider picnic foods?

It doesn't have to be fancy, or even cooked, just something you yourself would bring to an occasion like that.

Also, no alcohol. This isn't for a romantic occasion. Though food cooked with alcohol is a-okay.

Really, almost anything can be a picnic food, you just have to pack it properly.

I especially recommend rice, lightly sauced dishes, steamed buns, roasted duck or chicken, anything on a skewer, and hot soups in thermoses.

Perhaps cold soups, this time of year, actually.

Pasta and cold chicken? Anything that doesn't have to be eaten warm though, I think, can be used for picnics. It depends on what you like, right?

What I would literally take to a picnic for myself would be a bag of tortilla chips and hummus and a 2 liter of soda.

I think if people are showing up, I'll need a little more than just that.

Well, whichever soup you prefer.

You could bring chilled noodles with toppings and pour broth over them when you're ready to eat, for example.

That and I really love stormy weather. It's soothing.

I actually don't like soup, but it's still a good idea.

What kind of toppings?

Blanched or pickled greens, corn kernels, pickled radish or ginger, fishcake, seasoned pork, hard-boiled eggs, fried shrimp...

It's a good way to make use of leftovers.

( Versus Urashima who prefers the sun all day and everyday. Rain is fine but when it rains too much, that isn't much fun. Being inside gets boring real fast... Boring enough to put him to sleep. )

Something like a tent. Just made out of ice. It'll be easy to keep it up, and I can make it solid enough where the wind won't knock it over.

That all sounds damn good, and really close to what my mom once made. Except the fishcake.

See, my shinki eats a lot, so we never have leftovers.

I have it all figured out on how it will work, too. The rain will help with it.

Peanut butter, chocolate, waffles, maple syrup.... some other things, too. I like a lot of breakfast foods.

That would be nice too but doesn't offer a lot of variety. Particularly not if you're having guests.

When it's just me I don't really care, but I know my shinki likes variety. And anyone else I decide to invite.

Who is your shinki? I thought you used to have one of the "soulless" variety?

Urashima Kotetsu. Still got Mark, but hey, Urashima is a good kid. Plus, the cats adore him.

It's supposed to be coming up on monsoon season, right? I've never been caught in a typhoon before, so kinda of wanted to do something along the line of watching it.

While everyone hunkers inside, I'd rather be outside.

I could make different flavored waffles. They're pretty good still when cold. But ya know, I'm a walking microwave.

Are those things really such a novelty? It's sort of dangerous, most of all. You can still watch it from indoors.
