Quick question. What does everyone consider picnic foods?

It doesn't have to be fancy, or even cooked, just something you yourself would bring to an occasion like that.

Also, no alcohol. This isn't for a romantic occasion. Though food cooked with alcohol is a-okay.

Really, almost anything can be a picnic food, you just have to pack it properly.

I especially recommend rice, lightly sauced dishes, steamed buns, roasted duck or chicken, anything on a skewer, and hot soups in thermoses.

Perhaps cold soups, this time of year, actually.

Bento boxes!

( He sure did yell that out loud. )

Rice and grilled fish and rolled omelets and lots of different onigiri~ ( Mmmm, he sure is getting excited just thinking about everything and it sounds like he could keep listing foods for years but he'll spare Nari. ) Hey, hey, are you going to have a picnic, Nari-san~?

( Anyone can tell by the lilt in his voice that he wants in on this. He's a good shinki. He's earned his picnic. Feed him. )

Pasta and cold chicken? Anything that doesn't have to be eaten warm though, I think, can be used for picnics. It depends on what you like, right?

( Huh? He's actually confused for a second because aren't picnics something you're supposed to do when the weather is nice? But ah, that makes sense. )

Because you're Neptune-san, right?

( God of the sea and storms and all sorts of big and powerful things. )

I'm not afraid. You're sure it'll be okay, though?

Well, whichever soup you prefer.

You could bring chilled noodles with toppings and pour broth over them when you're ready to eat, for example.

Blanched or pickled greens, corn kernels, pickled radish or ginger, fishcake, seasoned pork, hard-boiled eggs, fried shrimp...

It's a good way to make use of leftovers.

It's okay...

( Versus Urashima who prefers the sun all day and everyday. Rain is fine but when it rains too much, that isn't much fun. Being inside gets boring real fast... Boring enough to put him to sleep. )

Eh? Really? What plan?

An ice tent...? ( That's... definitely something he wasn't expecting at all. ) I wanna see.

... What kind of food do you like?

That would be nice too but doesn't offer a lot of variety. Particularly not if you're having guests.

I think that's not uncommon.

So what sort of picnic are you having, if it isn't a romantic one?

In that case, it's a good way to empty the fridge before market day!

Who is your shinki? I thought you used to have one of the "soulless" variety?

Can we have those at the picnic too?

( He isn't sure if those things are actually good picnic foods given his limited knowledge on them-- he likes chocolate, he's had wafles, but peanut butter and maple syrup or things he hasn't had much of if at all. )

You should make your favorite foods.

Are those things really such a novelty? It's sort of dangerous, most of all. You can still watch it from indoors.

Don't get swept up by it.
