Good afternoon, everyone. Please excuse my change of name: this is Cho Hakkai.

I appear to have reappeared. Although I don't want to give undue hope to anyone who's recently lost a god or shinki, I'd like to announce that my classes will be continuing as usual.

To those who were living upstairs at the school the past few days, I expect you to help me clean up the mess. You know who you are.

[There are animal cracker crumbs everywhere.

And apart from that he's just not going to mention the events of last few days. At least he wasn't an actual child, but....]

Does anyone have an idea what might have caused it? I'm certain I felt something in the air for a few hours before it happened.

I am a youkai myself.

Ah, so, are not human. [She looks pleased with the confirmation and the difference in body language is almost instant. She becomes much more relaxed and languid, though her eyebrow does raise at the offer.

People were so helpful around here. Once upon a time, she wouldn't have questioned this, really. It was nice and something to expect, just the sort of niceness everyone should exhibit regardless of clan or species.

She'd long grown past such naivete, however.]

[Not anymore... he doesn't say, because he can see the way she relaxes at that admission. Youkai treatment by humans has taught him enough about how humans respond to different beings: once, he'd hated youkai. Now, he's seen enough to have an equal contempt for youkai and human abuses, from fear and from power.

He shrugs, smiling cheerfully at her.]

I haven't had the chance to test out most of these remedies. If I make one for you, I'd like you to tell me how well it works and if there are any unexpected effects.

Ah. [Oona throws her head back with an animated laugh]

Am experiment then, to test them? At least you are honest. Fine, fine. Like you, so will do this. But! Condition.

[She points at him through the screen] Is dangerous, yes? Or, could be. So, need more than just hopeful promise of less pain. [There's a pause for dramatic effect] Must feed me too!

[Oh, he appreciates her sense of humor. He laughs genuinely at the demand.]

Of course! Give me a day or two to make it, and you can come by to pick it up with dinner.

[She claps her hands together in delight] Fish! Want fish! Maybe something with salmon, or tuna? Have been trying many human foods, some are good, some feels funny, but most with fish have been good!

[He isn't a restaurant, Oona......]

I believe I can come up with something involving tuna. Is there anything you can't eat?

[It makes sense that a mermaid would prefer fish-based dishes. He might throw in a seaweed salad to appeal....]

Have not found out! [It's said cheerfully though] Eh, do not like some cakes... Some sweets too sweet. But, will try anything! I like food.

[If she fills her stomach she can fill the emptiness of her soul.

Okay no, not quite that dramatic, but who doesn't like good food?]

If there is one thing humans can do right, it is food.

They do have a talent for it, don't they?

[Who doesn't like good food? -- Well, some people care more about quantity than quality, but they're not as fun to cook for.]

And I'm sure it's difficult to do any cooking at all underwater.

Do not cook. Just eat!

Did not have cooked food until-- [A brief stumble in her speech, a moment of hesitation, before she continues a bit slower] Until taken to surface. Humans fed me some things.

But, food found here in this, ehh... World? Much better!

[Well, that's a good reason not to like humans, isn't it? She'd stumbled over the explanation. Hakkai doesn't push.

(She, after all, had been respectful of his past.)

Instead, lightly, he continues.]

It is one of the things humans do well. I wouldn't mind showing you how to cook if you're curious!

[Oona looks tempted a moment, but her smile manages to be both sly and cheeky]

But, if learn to cook, can not make others do it for me! [Sheesh, Hakkai, are you TRYING to make her NOT LAZY?]

[He laughs merrily.]

Oh no, much to the contrary! If you learn to cook, you can use it as leverage to make people do all sorts of favors for you.

[... Like, for instance, test mysterious medicines.]
