Here’s a question for you all: what do you think about death?

Considering the recent murders, I’d say it’s something to think about, isn’t it?

It truly brings in the question of whether or not death plays a relevant role here. People seem to be able to come back to life, but seems to go from god to shinki or even shinki to god. Regardless of the reason for the change in reversal, it seems that one element in particular remains missing: memories.

I’m curious as to why memories seem to be the important element in deciding between a god and a shinki aside from the obvious.

So, here’s another question: how many of you were previously shinki who became a god? If you don’t remember your time as a shinki, would you want those memories back?

There is more than one religion that associates death and memory loss. The Greeks had the river Lethe, and souls moving on from the Chinese hell to their next life drink a potion of forgetfulness.

Perhaps it's true.

that is a dangerous question to ask some people here. but then I'm sure you realize that you very well could be playing with fire.

The day of the Tanabata celebrations.

If anything, the fact that all the old gods and shinki agree that shinki don't

shouldn't remember their own lives makes me think it's something about what we are that causes us to forget.

We are dead. And if those who are killed here suffer a further loss of memory, death and forgetfulness may be linked after all. I'd like to make analogies to brain injury, or traumatic amnesia, but considering that we don't have heartbeats it's probably fanciful to imagine that our brains function like the brains of the living.

The murders are a separate issue.

I have always subscribed to a certain school of thought: do not ask a question unless you are willing to offer a suitable answer yourself. I am more than happy to share my opinions on the matter, if you are willing to do the same.

that is assuming that I subscribe to such notions or that I care about that sort of thing. pursuit of the truth is far more important than one's own well-being.

It has to be either psychological or... as much as I don't like to wave everything we don't understand off as magic: it could be caused by magic.

I haven't heard anything useful about the murders. I'm going to see if I can find any of the shinki who were examining the bodies and ask them for an update.

[They'd looked like Amaterasu's shinki, from their outfits. That could be a good place to start.]

[ ...Right, here's the supporting reports on the BBS history. So it really happened, then.....and she, herself, had been preoccupied.

Murders. In "Heaven". How gauche. ]

[Normally Shun would answer this with a name attached, but the mention of the murders has him curious, and he's not stupid enough to draw the attention of whoever's responsible.]

Have they found anything other than those two bodies from the other week and the person who mentioned being attacked on here a few days ago?

I'd like to know what the real significance of memories is here myself. I've seen a couple of shinki become gods and the other way around, and it doesn't seem to be a problem for them to know that they were here previously, which makes me question why the hell their memories vanish at all.

I suppose so. If this afterlife is teaching me anything, it's that I didn't read enough fantasy.

I did see that. If it's linked to the BBS, it's possible that the other victims could have interacted with their killer here, too.

I know one of the Tanabata victims was Jennifer. Do you know the identity of the other?

[Cardia had read his post and even considered answering on the bbs. But this is just easier. She does have some thoughts on the subject though.]

I get the impression that most of those are fairly recent phenomena. I don't think any of the native gods or shinki have switched. It probably has something to do with the way people are brought here and how their role is determined.
