If anything, the fact that all the old gods and shinki agree that shinki don't

shouldn't remember their own lives makes me think it's something about what we are that causes us to forget.

We are dead. And if those who are killed here suffer a further loss of memory, death and forgetfulness may be linked after all. I'd like to make analogies to brain injury, or traumatic amnesia, but considering that we don't have heartbeats it's probably fanciful to imagine that our brains function like the brains of the living.

The murders are a separate issue.
