Hello. This is Midoriya Izuku for those of you who don't know me well. I've been talking with a few people, and it seems that while newly minted gods often get somebody to guide them through their arrival, shinki aren't so lucky.

I think it would be good if we could compile a resource for newly arrived shinki. There's no reason they need to be so confused upon their arrival.

As I'm not a shinki, I don't know everything that should go into it. Could those who are please say what they would have liked to know earlier?

Thank you for your time.

You're right- I've been meaning to update this information a bit, but the basics are still the same.

[He's not sure how he feels about a new god writing about shinki things, but at least Aidos admitted at the start that he's looking for help with this.]

I can give you a hand rewriting it with what people are mentioning in this post.

No problem.

I'm busy today because everyone still wants to talk about ablutions.
But give me a couple days and I'll have something put together.

[As promised, a couple days later...]

Here's what I got. I tried to keep it short, but it still ended up really long.
I hope you can agree that I kept it to the facts. [Thinking of the section about nora, in particular...]

If you need anything else, let me know.

Shinki information and advice:

Get along well with your god, as much as possible.

Your task is mostly to help your god in what they want to accomplish as far as granting prayers and helping humans on the Near Shore.
In the course of those prayers, you’ll likely come across ayakashi, which are basically creatures made of negative emotions and curses.
To fight them off and help humans, you’ll change into a vessel for your god to use.
To start, change into your vessel form when your god calls your vessel name, and return to your normal form when called by your common name. It will happen naturally but it might feel strange. It’s better to not resist the change.
You can’t choose your vessel form. So whatever you turn into, work together with your god to find out the best way to be used.
In return for being the god’s vessel, the god will provide for you. Things like shelter, food and clothing are a givein.

Shinki have some special abilities. Learn how to make a borderline as soon as possible. It’s usual function is as a wall between you and whatever is on the other side. Any shinki can show how to make a borderline. Even a god who can explain it well can teach it.
It’s easier to practice against something you want on the other side of a wall from you, like a tiny ayakashi. But do it carefully- no matter how small they are they’ll still blight you.
The borderline can also cut, but it can’t kill ayakashi. Only a shinki wielded by a god can kill them.
Shinki also have the ability to cast spells, but need to learn how to make a strong borderline first.
You can teleport between the Far Shore (Heaven) and Near Shore (Earth) using your god’s shrine, or another shrine with permission.

Being touched by ayakashi causes blight where you made contact. It is contagious, and is like a painful bruise that burns and spreads.
Mild blight can be cured by cleansing water from a shrine. A lot of blight is excessively painful and can be fatal.
Shinki in vessel form are resistant to blight.

If you are feeling negative emotions like being upset or anxious, your god will feel that as an ache. (This doesn’t go the other way, from god to you.)
If you do something under a guilty conscience, you will blight your god. If it happens, it’s best to talk to your god about what you did and apologize right away. Then the blight can be washed off.
While there is a procedure called ‘ablution’ to help shinki and gods when this kind of blight becomes excessive, it is a terrible and extremely painful process. It cannot be said strongly enough that the shinki’s guilt should be dealt with well before getting to that point.

A shinki normally has only one god. Should a shinki absolutely not get along with their god despite trying everything, they can ask their god to revoke their name, and go and be named by another god.
Gods can technically name as many shinki they want, but need to keep in mind the mental and physical demands on them the more shinki they have.

New gods and shinki sometimes disappear suddenly. We don’t know why yet, but it’s just like how you suddenly show up here.
If your god, and therefore your name, disappears, you can ask to be named by another god. Otherwise, heaven will reassign you after a while.
It is not recommended to go long without a name. You cannot make a borderline or do spells without a god-given name. You will be very likely be chased or eaten by ayakashi.

A shinki that has more than one god-given name is called a ‘nora’, and is looked down upon in this culture as traitors. In the interest of not antagonizing the old gods and shinki of heaven so that we can work together better, it is not recommended to become a nora.
However, some new shinki wishing to exert their freedom of choice decide to become nora anyway.

Really?
Huh.

I can't imagine how that's important, but whatever. 'Weird' is just how things are with you new guys.

Anyway, thank you for doing this. Hopefully this will reach more new shinki than my post (that kept getting buried on the bbs) did.
