I'm not saying I'm the only one that's right. Trying to define what love is always simplifies things.
You want to keep your friends safe and happy, and you want to keep the ones you love safe and happy as well. You want to spend time with both, talk or have fun. Protecting them and taking care of them, as well as either trying to stop them from doing something royally stupid or taking part in it to minimize the damage. Staying by their side no matter what happens or taking a hit meant for them applies to both.
I don't want to protect them the same though. I have a friend, and if I could only save them or the person that I love, then I would save the friend. Does that mean I don't actually love the person I think I love?
By doing something special for them. It doesn't have to be something big or important, it can be a small gesture. For example bringing them food or a drink, doing something you usually don't, or being there when they need it. Keep in mind that not everyone shows their emotion openly; for some most extreme cases a simple 'thank you' can be the most heartfelt admission.
Sometimes they do, and sometimes they settle for a frown or polite smile they wear like a mask.
[he's not talking about himself, nope. Neither does he mention Hakkai.]
I wish you good luck.
Oh, one more thing. Don't settle for being too nice, your own kind of nice is enough. The first one can be misunderstood. Talking can help a lot as well.

You still may want to strangle them with a pillow sometimes, love or not.

I'd do the same. Protecting them would earn me asskicking.
