You know, sometimes I wish I could remember more about my life before coming here.

[A brief pause, and then he urgently waves his hands at the camera in a dismissive fashion.]

Aaaa, don't worry, it's not like I'm going to try to think too hard about it or anything! I know it's wrong.

[Also dangerous, he knows that too. But the "wrong" takes priority for him in particular.]

But it's just... [He pauses as a small and grumpy-looking pig scrabbles into his lap, scratching its ears distractedly.]

I have a lot of wonderful memories of these place, and I love being a shinki. But sometimes it feels like there is so much I don't know and need to make up for, you know? It's a bit daunting.

[He smiles widely.] So, that said... what are some of your best memories? Let's share them! Of both this place and home, depending on what you remember. It doesn't have to be very complicated, just something that makes you feel nice!

its wrong for shinki to try to remember our lives apart from the memories we are given
obviously thats not what im trying to do (・ωｰ)～☆
but its perfectly fine to remember nice things that have happened here right
and gods can recall their lives just fine

I don't remember anything about where I'm from, but I have a lot of nice memories about being with my temple. They're all good people and I like being around them.

They make me feel like I belong somewhere.

but as long as you have someone to hold on to thats all that matters

Maybe it's all shinki can ask for. People to make new memories with.

Since trying to find memories will kill us and no one knows why we sometimes remember things that won't kill us.

To lighten the mood, Ginia attaches a picture: It's a picture of Caster with a cooking apron covering his clothes and a capybara ear headband on his head. His expression is half surprised and half grinning.]

I think I get what you mean to some degree at least. It's sort of a complicated feeling.

Some of my best memories... There are a lot of them, because I like it here a lot. But I went to an amusement park with a friend- it was for a prayer but it was nonetheless a nice double date. And... The sleepover I was invited to at my current god's place before I even knew him, that was fun. But so was being at the beach the very first day that I got here, too.

[ Well, generally, going to fulfill a prayer or help with something makes him feel good and means it's a good memory by default. He needs to be useful and all. ]

Those really do sound like wonderful memories.

[It's the sort of memories he cherishes too, just the simple joy of spending time with people he cares about a lot. Even with the constant attacks by Ayakashi and unsettling mysteries and the disappearances of people he cares about, those moments still stand out more to him.]

The idea of an amusement park confused me at first, I don't think I ever went to one when I was alive, but it's a lot of fun, isn't it? [A great place to flirt with his God too, apparently.] And I loved going to the beach too, even if I don't swim all that well

[ The disappearances does suck so bad, but he likes fighting ayakashi so he's half-and-half on the ayakashi attacks. They're not necessarily terrible memories. He has a most terrible memory too and it has nothing to do with ayakashi. ]

It is a lot of fun, and if you've never gone before that only makes it an addition to the experience. The beach is great, if you want to get better at swimming it's just to practice, though maybe sticking to the shallows of a pool is better at first, if you're not good at swimming.

Oh! I guess you put me on the spot now, huh? [But he smiles brightly, tapping his cheek in thought.] Sparring with a friend who was here before. Spending time in the garden with the ducks. Cooking with- [For a moment his mouth tightens a bit with conflicting emotions, before he swallows down the name.] -another friend.

[To distract himself, he tries to think of a single memory with Hijikata, but there are simply too many of them - and some of them are a bit too private to share. A faint flush rises on his cheeks.] And just about every memory together with my God.

[She giggles, poking her own cheeks too.]

You really care for your god huh? It's good that you're close! I'm happy for you. All those memories are really good! They give you a super bright smile.

I took a girl over at the shore, I wanted to show you how amazing it is to feed seagulls by throwing crumbs high into the air. They take flight very suddenly and you're enveloped in white feathers, amazing. But I made a mistake, some were left on my open hand, so after the glorious display... they all attacked me and started pecking at my hand. Not as planned, but it made her laugh.

[ Just a tiny bit, but it was enough ]

For a while I worked part-time with my shinki at a cafe- he's really good at cooking and not really happy with people, so the look of relief on his face when I called that I'll take over the customer part and he can stay in kitchen was priceless. At the end of the day he made me this gorgeous fruit parfait- he said it was a leftover and would go to waste if someone didn't eat it, but I know the Truth.

[ That was a way of saying "thank you" by an old grump ]

My newest shinki, she's super talented. She killed me several times recently, and I said thank you. I'm not good with those guns like she is, you know, but I did my best. Got my ass kicked anyway. Then we chilled, we drank and played some other games. We go,t competitive again at some point. Eventually I've got my revenge in racing, so that makes us even, but I wouldn't mind being a loser. She makes the best face when she triumphs.

[ Okay that has gotten long already, and he got more ]

Geez there is a lot. And I can't give them all justice they deserve. I've climbed the highest tower in this city with my other shinki, during the night, the view was amazing, but the company was definitely better. I've run into amusement park by accident with a friend, they put us in those mascot suits it was weird, but also funny. Once I bought everyone gifts, and they weren't happy, talk about backfiring. On two different instances, I had several great dances-

Now that I think of it, I have a lot of stories to tell just from this place alone.

I'm glad that my attempts at courting left such good memory. Hopefully the next time the subject is brought, it will be after I succeed.

i mean even when things dont go as you expect them things can still turn out in a way that makes a good memory for later
sometimes a little discomfort means you can laugh with someone later too

its so nice how memories like these end up tying people together right
that feels to me like the most important part
and obviously those close to you feel something like that too (^_-)-☆

There you go brother, you're absolutely right. I'd drink to that. Always forward, forget the regrets and sorrows. Keep what is best, what is worth keeping.

Look, I won't deny, I was kind of not happy when I was brought here first. But after all that time it's... not as annoying as I thought it would be.

[She frowns, giving a small shake as though attempting to wash away a certain feeling of uneasiness.]

I don't really like thinking along those lines.

[It makes her feel supremely uncomfortable. Just the thought or wish of it gives her a sense of foreboding and she's quick to try and move on from anything that might hint at such.]

Isn't it better just focusing on the present? It's more fun thinking about what you can and have now.

That's what my god said to me when he first met me. He said, "Don't worry about who you were. We'll find out who you are now, together."

[And honestly, he'd never even tried to find out more than that. The uneasiness that came with straying too close to memories of his life disregarded, and the danger he now knows comes with it too, it just doesn't seem important.]

But since the memories I've made here in the heavens are part of who I am now... well, that's different, isn't it? They only give the present more meaning.
