You know, sometimes I wish I could remember more about my life before coming here.

[A brief pause, and then he urgently waves his hands at the camera in a dismissive fashion.]

Aaaa, don't worry, it's not like I'm going to try to think too hard about it or anything! I know it's wrong.

[Also dangerous, he knows that too. But the "wrong" takes priority for him in particular.]

But it's just... [He pauses as a small and grumpy-looking pig scrabbles into his lap, scratching its ears distractedly.]

I have a lot of wonderful memories of these place, and I love being a shinki. But sometimes it feels like there is so much I don't know and need to make up for, you know? It's a bit daunting.

[He smiles widely.] So, that said... what are some of your best memories? Let's share them! Of both this place and home, depending on what you remember. It doesn't have to be very complicated, just something that makes you feel nice!

its wrong for shinki to try to remember our lives apart from the memories we are given
obviously thats not what im trying to do (・ωｰ)～☆
but its perfectly fine to remember nice things that have happened here right
and gods can recall their lives just fine

I don't remember anything about where I'm from, but I have a lot of nice memories about being with my temple. They're all good people and I like being around them.

They make me feel like I belong somewhere.

['That I'm worth something.']

[As someone whose self-worth is so deeply rooted in what use he can be to others, Souji unconsciously subscribed to the same general view.]

having people who make you feel like you belong i mean
sometimes bad things happen and sometimes you will lose people
but as long as you have someone to hold on to thats all that matters

['As long as they'll have me, I'll never let go of them.'

But maybe that's a bit too raw to say on the BBS. So Ginia deletes the words and writes something else.]

Maybe it's all shinki can ask for. People to make new memories with.

Since trying to find memories will kill us and no one knows why we sometimes remember things that won't kill us.

[Wow, that's dour.

To lighten the mood, Ginia attaches a picture: It's a picture of Caster with a cooking apron covering his clothes and a capybara ear headband on his head. His expression is half surprised and half grinning.]

That's my god, Caster.

[It’s the kind of thing Souji says, completely uncensored and with painful earnestness. But he’s also not always great at knowing what’s socially acceptable to say.]

ive only gotten one of those memories so far and im careful not to push it when i think about it
but at least it gave me a sense that there was something there at all
even so i try to focus on how it affects the memories im making now

I haven't gotten any memories back, but I guess it's all random chance.

Was it a good memory?

Caster is! He's really laid-back and easy-going so he's a lot of fun to be around. He's also really good at fighting and it's fun going on hunts with him. He does a good job taking care of us. My exemplar too.

I'm lucky to have them.

I think I get what you mean to some degree at least. It's sort of a complicated feeling.

Some of my best memories... There are a lot of them, because I like it here a lot. But I went to an amusement park with a friend- it was for a prayer but it was nonetheless a nice double date. And... The sleepover I was invited to at my current god's place before I even knew him, that was fun. But so was being at the beach the very first day that I got here, too.

[ Well, generally, going to fulfill a prayer or help with something makes him feel good and means it's a good memory by default. He needs to be useful and all. ]

it was both good and bad i guess
it was really sad because it was all about leaving someone forever and knowing we would never see each other again
but it was good because that someone was my god and it meant i knew we had been important to each other even before coming here
and now we can be together here

thats wonderful though
and if you think about it in a situation like that... it means weve gotten a second chance to make happy memories and help people we love
so we are really lucky

Those really do sound like wonderful memories.

[It's the sort of memories he cherishes too, just the simple joy of spending time with people he cares about a lot. Even with the constant attacks by Ayakashi and unsettling mysteries and the disappearances of people he cares about, those moments still stand out more to him.]

The idea of an amusement park confused me at first, I don't think I ever went to one when I was alive, but it's a lot of fun, isn't it? [A great place to flirt with his God too, apparently.] And I loved going to the beach too, even if I don't swim all that well

Hey, hey! It's nice of you to ask about other's best memories but lets change it up a bit!

[She grins into the camera, doing a spin and gesturing to Souji]

You share too! What are some of your best memories?

Oh! I guess you put me on the spot now, huh? [But he smiles brightly, tapping his cheek in thought.] Sparring with a friend who was here before. Spending time in the garden with the ducks. Cooking with- [For a moment his mouth tightens a bit with conflicting emotions, before he swallows down the name.] -another friend.

[To distract himself, he tries to think of a single memory with Hijikata, but there are simply too many of them - and some of them are a bit too private to share. A faint flush rises on his cheeks.] And just about every memory together with my God.

Ahh! Ahh! I see it! I can see the color on your face!

[She giggles, poking her own cheeks too.]

You really care for your god huh? It's good that you're close! I'm happy for you. All those memories are really good! They give you a super bright smile.

You should keep smiling like that!

[Such is the rules of situations like these, that Souji naturally blushes even deeper as she points it out, lifting his hands a bit to cover it even though that is absolutely pointless. He giggles a bit, nodding.]

I love him, of course. He's my God, after all. And he's also just a very good man.

[And the actual love of his life even before he arrived in the Far Shore, although he doesn't actually remember that.]

What about you then? What kind of things make you smile?

Ohhhh? Hey, hey have you done anything speical with eachother? Like gifts or maybe a night out on the town? Make more best memories!

[Her own smile is bright. It brightens even more as she watches Souji's reaction and how fond his words come across. Though the question makes her blink]

Easy! My friends! I do miss my team back home but I have so many good friends here. I like collecting Davesprite's feathers and helping him preen when he lets me or I can catch him off guard. Jogging with Kairi in the mornings is a blast and just anything like that. Every good memory is the best in it's own way.

Say, have you thought of scrap booking your memories?

[Wow, that's heavy. What is it like forgetting someone so important and having them know you but unable to say anything? Ginia knows it happens - she's seen the network posts asking for advice on what to do in those situations - but she's never thought about it in relation to her until now.]

Even if the memory was sad, at least the outcome is good. I'm really happy you remember him and can be together.

I guess so. I'm really happy to know them and be with them.

Wait, who said anything about love?

[WHAT]

[For a moment Souji's eyes widen in alarm and he shades toward outright magenta - what does she mean "done anything special with"... oh. Oh. Okay. Breathe.]

We've done lots of things like that. He gets me sweets all the time, and we often go for long walks together - especially when it's raining.

[He beams at her description of her friends, nodding.]

You're absolutely right. It's hard to really compare memories, right? [A beat.] What is "scrap booking"? [Mercy.]

[Oh. Oh wow. That's quite the color change Souji. She's tempted to ask if he's okay but he seems fine. He must be thinking of something super happy.

She'll have to ask about that later]

Wow, I dont meet many people that like the rain. You really don't know what scrap booking is? Really, really?

[She's amazed. This needs to be fixed now]

[It's difficult to think of, that Hijikata had to pretend for so long that they didn't already know each other, and he knows that it must've been so difficult.]

I care about him a great deal. He's very important to me, my entire temple is, but I don't know if I'd call that love.

Isn't love romantic?

[Or she could not because Souji might just expire, which would be awkward since he's already a shinki.]

Everything smells nice during the rain! And... I enjoy sharing an umbrella with him and listening to the sound of the rain.

[Still slowly returning to a more normal color.]

I've never heard of it, no. Is it something fun? [The world may not have enough glitter in it.]

i dont know if i would say that
you can love your family cant you
and there is also the kind of love you have for a good lord or master
i guess that its closer to what you should feel for a god

Ohhhh that does sound nice! If you're sharing an umbrella, unless its super mega big you have to get really close.

Very fun! You take your favorite pictures different times and memories and you put them in a book to keep and show others if you want! Then you decorate the pages, write things, draw, paint and use glitter if you want! You can make it however you want cause its yours. I've been making one for my time here and its fun to look back on it.

[The four of them in Caster's temple are a pack ready to run into battle with each other and for each other. If that's not familial, than what is?

Ginia can understand a love for a person of higher power too. Respect, loyalty, then why not love too?

I guess I've never really thought about love like that before.

Though I haven't thought much about love at all.
