Is there a difference between wishes and prayers? If a god makes a wish here... does someone hear it somewhere and make it happen?

You can wish to anyone or no one in particular but when you pray, it's normally to someone you're praying to, don't you think? Otherwise, I think they're both the same.

I guess that's true. I mean, people wish on stars sometimes, but that's still like looking up at the heavens anyway...

I think
a wish is more like a hope? You might make it like a prayer and you want it to come true, but it's not being made to anyone specific
A prayer is more asking someone like a god to do something.
So one is hoping something will happen and the other is wanting someone to intervene.

It probably is, but you also remember to need to do your part in whatever it is you want.
You can't just hope it will happen and expect it.

I wonder if wishing on a star is actually a prayer? Probably not birthday candles though.

I was taught that a wish could come from the heart or mind, but a prayer is a combination of both.

And why not? If we answer wishes and prayers, why wouldn't someone do that for us?

I think that wishes are kept more to yourself and not necessarily directed towards a god or other entity that is capable of assisting you. Most often, wishes are simplistic and focus more on frivolous, personal desires, where as prayers are pleas to receive help for real life issues that you are incapable of remedying yourself.
