the mysterious as fuck whims of this place have recently bestowed on me
a sickass turntable set
which i seem to be pretty fucking good with if i do say so myself

i keep hearing about shinki spells
and also theres some flyers about them around now i guess
but lets have some personal anecdotes first
how actually useful are the spells we can learn
or are they just kind of arbitrary bullshit powers

everything ive remembered about my world so far is pretty bizarre

goddamnit this is confusing
sometimes i can tell if the universal translator shit is happening
other times i just think im reading english in the first place
because i definitely cant speak japanese so by all rights id be screwed otherwise

It is a bit confusing. When a language gets translated can be so different.
If you want it to matter less, like if it stops working or something, you could always learn it. Japanese, I mean.

i know im a cool dude and all but learning three alphabets is a pretty tall order
and also i like to know all of the words for everything
so id have to basically eat the thesaurus on top of that shit
can we all just hope the universal translator never fucks up ever

It’s not that hard, really. I think, at least, but it’s not like I remember learning it.
So it would require a lot of studying, so what?

i mean sure its useful
but good luck convincing people its worth the grind
im gonna rely on our good friend universal translator for now
though i have been learning kanji a bit i guess
since that doesnt work so well on those

But if it takes effort it's really satisfying once you've conquered parts of it and get closer to your goal.

i mean if we are actually talking kids
they get enough shit dumped on them at school that who the fuck is gonna ask for more of it outside just so they can get squiggly accomplishment feels
that they could also get just by playing a video game long enough

They don't really go to school here unless they choose to, though.
I mean, some do, but not every kid, even though the school is there.
And it's not like school doesn't have language as a subject anyway, they can just swap out their native language to Japanese. A lot of schools even have one or more foreign languages as mandatory subjects, too.
And it's not like kids don't like learning new things.

yeah im talking more in general terms though
but like
if they havent chosen to go to the school here
its probably safe to assume theyre not down to randomly study languages on the off chance we suddenly all stop being able to understand each other
also
we have way more teenagers here than actual kids
and teenagers are way more specific about what new things they want to learn

Teenagers are still kids, they're not adults. And anyone can be specific about what they want to learn, even pre-teens.

sure teenagers arent adults but there are differences between teens and kids
anyone can be specific but teenagers are a particularly infuriating brand of it
