I loved my parents and, yes, I had a pet once. But those were not romantic loves.

What is the difference?

The loves overlap to a certain degree, but romantic love is usually more intense; more passionate. You would not lie with a father, mother, brother or sister.

That sounds like lust, not love. Is a woman's desire to lie with her beloved more intense than a child's worship of her mother?

They oft become entwined.

Those loves cannot be compared! The heart is complex and it can feel innocent love and romantic love side by side.

Innocent? What an interesting choice of words. Innocent implies a lack of knowledge, does it not? An imbalance between the lover and the loved.

I loved my mother and father before I knew what it meant. I suppose there might be an imbalance between a parent and a child, for example, but there is no harm in it most of the time.
