It appears I am like a sword without a hand to wield it. My goddess has departed, leaving only a letter of farewell and freeing me of the bonds that tie shinki to god.

Without direction, I wonder if it is best to take my sword and hunt ayakashi until my path reveals itself. I am told I cannot rid the land of their existence myself, but that I may weaken them for others. Maybe this is my true fate, to be a lone weapon, unfettered of my duty and facing evil in the darkness.

I know not my path but I am open to hearing the thoughts of those more experienced in this existence as well as others of strong opinion.

I'm sorry to hear about your goddess.
But if you wait for just a few days they should assign you to another god.
Or you could look for another god yourself.
Going up against ayakashi on your own is far too dangerous.

My sword hand trembles, not in fear of unbeatable foes, but in anticipation of the battles to come. I fear not the lone road.

If the heavens will choose me for another god, though, I will trust their judgement.

Just be patient.

I may not have the luxury of patience. Or the virtue. As for how long my control holds over the forces that battle within me for release, only time will tell.

Do not fight ayakashi on your own, if you can help it.
I recommend choosing a new god of your own, someone you can fight with and respect. It will save you from being assigned to someone unsuitable later.

As my restraint dwindles, it is a wonder I could stop myself from seeking out this evil. As for the gods, I know so few. Maybe, one day, I will find one whose will is a match for my own. Until then I am unsure of who would be suitable.

If you can learn to practice patience and restraint, the power you will achieve may be enough to help you properly vanquish your foes. If you cannot, they'll devour you.

But seriously, think about it and ask around. It isn't a decision to be made lightly. If you get assigned to someone you can't work with before you choose your own, don't feel as though you can't ask them to remove the name.

It seems you have a couple of people warning you against not going off alone...
But I think it bears repeating.
If you were to get hurt, and you were all alone, there would be no way to alert anyone.

The aid of allies is invaluable, this is true. Still, the path before me is clear and my purpose is righteous. If it means facing this alone, then so be it!

You may doubt my skill but my resolve is true. I have just arrived, yet I am cut loose into the wind. Do I go to battle, do I rest by the shores, do I declare my intent to the heavens or even do I seek the aid of another? The possibilities are endless and equal, so no, I have nothing better to do.

It is simple. Fate has chosen a lonely road for this would be hero. I have only my sword hand and my determination by my side.

And not every battle can be waged on approved terms. Some battles must be met then and there, even if the warriors are not prepared.

Owain... I'm sorry. It must be difficult to lose your goddess so soon after arriving, but please don't go out on your own. You won't be able to defeat the ayakashi on your own, and if you get blighted, there may be no coming back from it.

Even the afterlife is fraught with trials but, fear not, I will be the better of them. As for this blight, I know so little but I have little fear for it. It appears many believe this to be a fools errand though so I will take that into consideration.

'Tis unfortunate that I got a shinki assigned the very day we met in the festival, or I'd offer to be your god! You seem fun to team up with! Alas, your zeal might be too exhausting and I'm no strong warrior. In any case, if you need a place to stay until you find a god as badass as you seem to desire, I can offer my temple as a resting chamber if you have nowhere to go.

I deeply appreciate the offer and may take you up on it. I fear though I may have once held skills for survival in the wilds, I am bereft of the memories. For all I know I may be a man of cities grand and luxurious.

The wilds are brimful with Ayakashi anyway and like other comments say, it's gonna suck if you wander alone.

Meanwhile, my temple has a fairly solid roof, plenty of bacon or rice for breakfast, hot water in the facilities, and good wifi. I'm especially proud of the wifi.
