It appears I am like a sword without a hand to wield it. My goddess has departed, leaving only a letter of farewell and freeing me of the bonds that tie shinki to god.

Without direction, I wonder if it is best to take my sword and hunt ayakashi until my path reveals itself. I am told I cannot rid the land of their existence myself, but that I may weaken them for others. Maybe this is my true fate, to be a lone weapon, unfettered of my duty and facing evil in the darkness.

I know not my path but I am open to hearing the thoughts of those more experienced in this existence as well as others of strong opinion.

I am sure your failures are many though I will not aspire to reach them.

[Though he was tempted to continue, the whole blighting thing is a little more serious...]

Though I have not experienced this blighting curse. I must confess that though I am unsure where the fear of such comes from, I am not eager to experience it myself. It must speak highly of of the strength of your resolve and the temperament of your soul.

Of course it does! [ To that “strength of his resolve” bullshit—just in case Owain is keeping score. ]
But if you are too new to even experience real contact with an ayakashi, I don’t see how you can even claim what a dutiful, hardworking shinki such as myself has to go through on a daily basis.
Unlike your silly aspirations, there is real merit in giving your body and soul to your liege.

[Oh good, back on something he can work with! Not that Owain has any grounding or backing for any of his claims. At this point he's gone too deep and can't back out.]

If that is the limits of your dreams, then that is as noble as you wish it to be. I cannot find peace just in service to another's goal though. I must seek my destiny and find the true expanse of my power.

You are a SHINKI. You are meant to devote your life to the service of another!

I was reborn a weapon to gods, yes, but weapons have souls. Mine burns with crimson fires and seeks to consume all those I that require justice be brought upon them. As such, I'll seek out whatever gods need aid and bring low their enemies. When not in service I will seek to unlock the swirling darkness within me and harness it for greatness.

A nora, then? [ That’s the only way he can even fathom Owain’s weird fantasies here. ]
And in any case, you sound as if you need a healer for your condition, not…whatever it is you think you are doing!

I am not yet a Nora but one day I may. I will not limit my potential.

[He doesn't know what he's talking about.]

I will not seek a healer, as such things are not wounds so much as destiny. These are demons I must battle and dare not drag another into.

As that is probably the nicest thing you have admitted about me today, I will accept it as a compliment. Your concern is also appreciated though I have confidence no matter my path that I will come through.

Hmph.
Do whatever you like, then.
So long as you do not inconvenience anyone else with your foolishness, it doesn't matter.

[ Though some small part of him actually would be concerned, he doesn't bother to correct the implication that he wouldn't care if Owain lives or dies either. ]
