So hey, is anybody else gonna watch Magic Girl Development Planning? It comes out next month, and it really looks like it's gonna be the sleeper hit of the summer season! It's all about these five girls whose fathers work for this big real estate company in Tokyo, but monsters start showin' up tryin' to take over the city with illegal building constructions and fake permits and stuff. And just when it looks like the villains are gonna succeed, the spirit of the city awakens and gives the girls magical powers based on the building and real estate industry! They save the day for the first time and end up workin' as special contractors for the company, and even their parents don't know their real identities!

I'm kinda torn on which one I think I'm gonna like the best. Their leader is Zone-chan. She's kind of an airhead, but she's an architecture genius whose powers are all about zoning laws. She sets up the magical barriers where they fight the bad guys, so that there's no permanent property damage when they're done with the fight. Then there's Blueprint-chan, the shy artist girl who wants to do creative stuff but keeps getting pushed toward engineering instead. She can summon up useful weapons and items out of thin air as long as she can draw them. Survey-chan is the no-nonsense serious one, and is an expert at seeing the strengths and weaknesses both in structures and people. Demo-chan is the spoiled rich girl, and her powers are all about demolition. She has an obsession with things being perfect and beautiful, and tosses bombs around when they don't meet her high standards of quality. Construction-chan is an athlete, and her powers are totally defensive, like makin' walls or reinforcin' things with rebar. She's got kind of a complex about it 'cause she feels like she'd be better suited to an attacking role.

Anyway, I think it sounds great. It's not gettin' as much attention as some of the other shows from bigger name studios, but I really think they've got a solid and original concept here. I'm hopin' if I spread the word a little bit, more people will watch it and they'll put out lots of collectible merchandise for the show. It's always important to support smaller anime studios that are willing to take a risk and do something that's never been seen before, y'know? That's how the art form grows and evolves!

So anyway, lemme know what you guys think! Let's get this fandom started!

I hadn't heard about this show before at all! Construction-chan is the one I'll be rooting for by the sounds of it.

Why is engineering being depicted as a bad thing? That's a perfectly respectable career choice that requires a great deal of creativity and intelligence. This show must be even stupider than I thought.

I don't think it really is. I mean, the whole show pretty much revolves around that kinda stuff. It's just not the right career choice for the character. Magical girl shows are full of personal conflicts that the characters have to work through while they're busy saving the world.

If she engages in combat through drawing weapons and tools, it sounds to me like engineering would be the perfect choice for her. Especially if she has a name like "Blueprint-chan", she obviously has the correct skills for that line of work. If she can only make tools "as long as she can draw them" then she's either useless or she has a strong understanding of how objects are constructed and how to design something that would be functional and efficient. Just because it looks technical and dry doesn't mean designing blueprints is any less creative. In fact, I'd say it leaves room for even more creativity than most types of art which only deal with stationary objects or flat images.

Based on the limited information available, it's obvious to me that this show is either going to completely ignore the logistics of her abilities and allow her to be a terrible engineer when that's supposed to be her role, or they'll have her realize through her new abilities the true potential behind engineering and use it as a new outlet for her creativity.

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. Blueprint-chan is just her magical girl name, so of course she's gonna be able to understand how stuff is put together as an innate ability. That pretty much comes with the territory. And if I had to guess, it'll probably turn out the second way, where she finds out that she can actually be really creative even within the bounds of technical drawings. It'll just take a while to get there. Gotta have character development, right?

Midoriya and I are still working on Luminous Gatekeeper Haruno, but this sounds [ exactly like something him and Izuku would see on TV at home, tbh ] interesting, so I suspect we'll wind up watching it.

I think Survey-chan is going to be my favorite. I can see where their charm points are, at least in theory.

No-nonsense and serious is great when it's paired with more out there personalities. It sounds like this show is going to have a good balance of that.

Looks like there's already a lot of variety in favorite characters. That's a sign of a well-balanced cast, just like you said. It's always fun to see how different personalities end up clashing and getting along in magical girl shows.

Luminous Gatekeeper Haruno's been great so far. I didn't watch a lot of magical girl shows before, I feel like I've been missing out.
