I do not think this is the time for beach parties. Half of us cannot remember who we are. Those of us who know a shinki's past could kill them with a single word, without ever meaning for them to come to harm. This should not be accepted as normal without so much as an explanation as to why it is necessary.

What reason could there possibly be to strip someone of all memory?

Because usually it's only the very young who are this risky. Considering it's just the way the system in this world works, asking 'why' is kind of pointless, isn't it? It is because it is, it's just how this world works. It isn't a problem that can be fixed by just trying harder or an explanation.

It's unfair and terrible, but changing it would be like trying to change the color the grass becomes when it grows.

Yet there are things in all worlds that can be changed, if you try. This country does not have a king, and to my people that is unthinkable. If such a thing can be changed, it seems to me that many other things that seem to be unchangeable may not in fact be so. At home, too, we know why we have a king; it is not something that simply happened, that the simplest peasant cannot be brought to understand. There must be a reason why the grass is green, too.

I do not wish to cause anyone harm by these questions, but right now we risk hurting one another every time we meet a friend.

What do you want them to do? Just suddenly go 'nevermind, we changed our minds about the rules' and for that to be that? Grass is green because of chlorophyll and for that reason grass will never be blue. It's something you literally can't change. People can change how a country is ruled because it isn't a set thing-- you can't compare those two. We can't talk to shinki about their pasts because it'll kill them, that's it. There's no way of changing that because that's the way this world operates. I'm not sure what you're not understanding about that.

Your question looks more like your shaking your fist and complaining about why the Earth rotates one direction and not the other and why can't we all just change the direction?

What are you really looking for an answer for here? [AKA 'what's the real thing bothering you']

What I wish them to do is explain why the grass here is blue. Surely it is not unreasonable, on coming to a world that works differently, to remark upon those differences and wonder what should have caused the change?

Besides, that is hardly a fair example. You say you know why the grass is green, so of course you are not curious about it any more.
