ok so
ive been thinking about this for a while but how exactly the fuck does this whole belief to god system work here anyway
i mean we have gods here that nobody except ancient history nerd basement cultists should be worshipping
riding high when some of the big names are spectacular only in their absence
and then theres the question of what bar you have to pass to be considered a god
like where the fuck are our incarnations of the flying spaghetti monster and ceiling cat
or less tragically dated memes
come on people they have religious texts too

i guess im not that faithful a person because the whole thing seems like grade a spun bullshit to me
but maybe someone can make more sense out of this most gordian of knots

[Jennifer, at least, has met Davesprite before, so he doesn't feel too weird about replying in video-kind. He looks like he's making a pretty mighty effort to contain himself right now, though.]

It's pronounced "meem", just going to get that out of the way before someone assumes you're trolling. Hells of common mispronounciation, don't feel too bad, but it's been done so many times that some people just kind of leap on people who use it.

And this is probably going to sound stupid as fuck, but a meme is basically when someone posts a dumb funny thing on the internet that's easy to adapt and then a bunch of people copy it and turn it into a massive in-joke for a hot ten minutes before it gets old and they move on to the next one.

It sounds fun, at least. I suppose if something has enough of a cult following it could be considered ascending to godhood, but it's a fine line... [It does raise an interesting question, though let's all be glad there just isn't a Pepe God]

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Pretty much the twenty-first century's permutation of an in-joke. [As ever, Davesprite just seems generally chill and at ease about the conversation, even if it is kind of funny to see her looking so serious about it.]

The two I mentioned in the original post actually have rewrites of the bible centred around them, though the FSM I think was memed after the fact because originally it was some "your move, religion" thing that atheists came up with, I didn't read right into the cracks about it.

I wonder if we'll see people from Lovecraft's novels show up. Actually, it's a bit strange that we haven't really seen anyone from Christian texts either. I wish we knew a bit more about what went into the decisions... I'm not sure the 'old' gods would know either.

Nah, I think the thing was pretty much like. "God can be anything so what if it was a sentient ball of spaghetti, ha ha religion is dumb". I guess if it was anything we'd call it an aspect of capital-G God.

[Davesprite's really just half-shrugging on this, because religion isn't that big a thing for him.]

Lovecraft's eldritch nightmares were definitely a thing I was considering when it came to gods from other sources showing up. But yeah, I'm not counting on anyone having real answers to this, it's too much of a philosophical nightmare.

[As for her last comment, Davesprite's mouth curls in an ever-so-slight expression of reassurance.] It's cool, I was expecting both sides of the party when I opened this post to the savage internet hordes.

It's interesting too that Amaterasu seems to be the head of it all or that it's all centered in Japan... I wonder if that means, at least in this world, that their religion is the 'true' one? [She smiles faintly herself] I'm sure scientists and religions all over would have a field day with that one.

[Jennifer pauses, then looks concerned. She hasn't really been checking the other responses, so--] No one's been cruel to you over this, have they?

[That's getting into more theoretical areas, and Davespite has to steeple his talons a little thinking on that one.]

That assumes this is the One True Heaven and all the others aren't just kind of getting mashed into this one because of however it is we're coming here or some shit. I mean, if gods from out of that pantheon only started showing up after this insane fuckery kicked off, it's kind of the first conclusion you come to. But yeah, either way, fucking theological World War III could start up over something like this.

[As for cruelty, Davesprite gives a casual shrug.] One or two people with no sense of humour, but that's probably not even considered cruel and unusual punishment.
