When: June 8
From: Anubis

Are gods expected to work with their pantheons? I don't mind if so, but I haven't the faintest idea whom else might be beholden to the Egyptians.
On that note, if anyone has any great need of the services of one of the many gods of the afterlife that seem to be in the mythology of this world, I'm willing to assist in any way I can. Please feel free to contact me on this odd little device or at my temple.

Or nothing would continue to get done. We may never know.
There's some other perks, in theory. Teleporting around this world is handy and saves on walking. And the shapeshifting's okay, though I wouldn't have minded more variety. And the hypothetical immortality until killed or disappearing part.
But not at all what I expected when told 'god'.
no subject
But if you teleport every time you're going somewhere won't that make you less fit? Though it IS convenient. You can shapeshift? But you're a god right? I thought only shinki did that.
So what were you expecting?
no subject
I'm not really concerned about becoming less fit. There's plenty of other activities that teleporting can't be used for. I can shapeshift but not become a weapon or object the way shinki can, I just become more like the appearance Anubis has in myth.
To quote a sign I saw earlier today, I expected Real Ultimate Power.
Or at least the ability to return home, pick up my companions and bring them here for a few extra hands in studying this new world.
no subject
I suppose that's true yeah. So you're a jackal then? You can turn into one? Or is it just the head? That sounds cool can I see?
When you call it like that it sounds like it can be scary if one person has something like a Real Ultimate Power.
So there are a lot of people you know that might want to learn about it.
no subject
If everyone has Real Ultimate Power, checks and balances are automatically in place via retaliation or aid from your fellows. As many of us are gods, then every god would share that power. One person alone would likely swiftly abuse it even if they were well-intended in the beginning.
Very much so. This is a subject that's fascinated many of us!
no subject
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Is that checks and balances something that really applies or something you imagine applies?
I see, so you're researchers of some sort?
no subject
I don't know that it applies in our specific situation but in what I have read so far of the myth of gods of this world it does. Even the ruling ones are kept in check by those theoretically submissive to the ruler.
We are. Were, I suppose, it's no longer my task, at least for now.
no subject
Huh. I see. So it's like a secretly Switch type of relationship.
Being here doesn't mean you can't still research things though, if there are things you can research here that you want to research.
no subject
I'll forgive it this time if it was. But puns aside I'm not sure I have the coordination for something like multiple arms.
I suppose so yes. Nature, even for gods, seems to wish to balance itself somewhere, somehow.
That is true. I'm not sure how to continue the research that had stalled back home, but there's plenty of new things to keep the search for knowledge ongoing. Every world has something new and this one is horrendously massive.
no subject
Wouldn't that be something one would have to grow used to if one had them? Like getting used to having a snout and prehensile ears and stuff.
So it's just nature just like the rest of nature. Like with the balance between animals and stuff.
Yeah, you just gotta find things you find interesting enough to research is all.
no subject
I suppose yes, but I admit it's easier to adjust to big ears than many arms. Or at least I am assuming so, since the latter hasn't happened and with luck won't.
As for balance, that's another thing I have a few theories on but it does seem to prove out in myth AND here. I haven't heard of anyone going mad with power yet for example!
Once I'm settled in I'll have to look around. My duty as a god should come first but if curiosity and duty overlap then all the better.
Thank you by the way. It's easy to get overwhelmed.
no subject
You sure nobody goes lowkey mad any nobody noticed yet?
I can get that. We're here for the sake of duty and all. Though shinki have their own duties I guess. But if it does then that's just great.
Oh. No problem. I suppose so.
no subject
If they have and we haven't noticed, how would we know?
There is one duty we all seem to share, seeing to these ayakashi creatures. If there's something to study, perhaps it's those. And more efficient ways to deal with them.
no subject
No idea! Make up a special test?
Oooh yeah. Maybe it could work as a research subject.

Let's think of some questions in the extremely unlikely scenario it'll ever come up. Nothing too obvious like 'If you ruled the world, what would you do?'
This bus ride is taking a while, it'll be distracting.

Are we drawing a line between generalized mental illness or going right for story villains?
I have heard pencil thin mustaches and small goatees can be a sign of malevolent intentions.
no subject
I dunno, mental illness and general story villainous things seem to be pretty divided. I don't think there are very many story villains with mental illnesses.
Really?
[ ....hm. Sounds familiar. He should hit the books on that. ]
no subject
Wouldn't evil itself be an illness? Say for example you have Lord Babyeater, who gained his name through the dedicated pursuit of doing just that. That sort of person can't be very stable or normal by most standards, could he?
no subject
No idea. It definitely sounds evil but equaling evil with an illness might be rude to those that really are ill.
no subject
Evil wears that guise also. Discerning the ones who are intending evil from those who are innocent is also an important part of such questions, isn't it? Evil is evil no matter what gives birth to it! And if they are using such a thing as a shield, then I would think they're even more likely to be our hidden troublemakers.
no subject
If I remembered anything I might be able to relate but as it is I'll just have to guess that "I'll see which it is as time passes" or something.
Basically, some people that are evil might be ill and some people that are ill might be evil, but it doesn't mean everyone of either are the other.
no subject
Yes? Let's start from the beginning again as I believe you may have lost track of the chain of thought in favor of advocating for the sick. We're looking for people who are mad with power. Madness is a mental illness. Insanity is exactly that also. The point of inventing questions is to detect the ones whom have gone mad with power, and I wished to know if we are also pursuing those who are storybook villainous in secret.
It's good to overthink it but not in the wrong directions.
