Dance epidemic tonight - video/action
Posted: May 25th
From: Barry Goodman
Yo!
[The video feed flicks on to reveal the grinning face of one Barry Goodman. As he steps back, arms folded confidently, a view of the room he's standing in opens up It's large and empty, with wooden floors, burnished steel bars along the walls, and with plenty of natural light streaming in through the windows. In short, it's a dance studio.]
I'm proud to announce the grand opening of my new talent agency: Sparkle Motion! With as many stars as there are in the heavens!
[His smile widens, and he dramatically waves his arm.]
...Well, someday, anyway. That's where you guys come in. I know heaven's got talent - I've seen it. So I'm gonna do what I do best - help all you stars out there shine as bright as you can! After all, we can't spend all our time fightin' ayakashi, right?
[Letting out a big laugh, he folds his arms again.]
So if you think you've got real star power, come on and show me what you've got! Hahaha!

'Course I am. If you're not passionate about what you do, why do it at all?
no subject
Also, where exactly is your studio? I might have some trouble auditioning if I can't find it.
no subject
[Which he does momentarily.]
See ya soon!
no subject
[And she means it - it's not much later in the day when she shows up, knocking on the door a little cautiously as she comes in and looks around at what she can see of the studio.]
Hello?
no subject
Hey! C'mon in! You here for the audition?
no subject
Yes, I am. I'm Maria Cadenzavna Eve, it's good to meet you in person. Though I think our earlier talk had me marked as Nuada Airgetlám.
no subject
[That other name is a little hard to pronounce.]
Barry Goodman.
[Smiling, he extends a hand for her to shake.]
So, you ready to get down to it?
no subject
That's fine. It's good to finally meet you after hearing about you from Sheryl. [Taking the offered hand, she gives a firm, somewhat formal shake. It's something she's used to doing at home, but not so much here.
On the topic of things she's used to, though, his question gets a confident grin by way of answer.]
I'm always ready to perform. I can start whenever you're prepared.
no subject
Awright, then, let's see what you can do. The floor's all yours.
no subject
It's been a little while since I've sung without backing music, but it's not new to me. I think it'll just make things a little more interesting.
[Spreading her arms slowly, she puts one foot forward, takes a few cleansing breaths, and begins a rather quiet little song, though the words have a certain strength to them despite that.]
Even if I cry...even if I cry...
I won't stop striking at your chest,
I'll sing this beat, life...
[Her voice get more intense as the song continues, and though it's not one she can dance as powerfully to as some of her others, her motions are still smooth and practiced as she twirls and leaps around the studio, landing perfectly on heeled shoes in a manner that says she's done this countless times before. Finally, the song winds down, her voice becoming quieter again but no less intense.]
...It's fine to go forth, so I can be myself,
To the tomorrow where I can call "me" with a high voice.
That is "strength".
[As the last note dies out, Maria offers a polite gesture somewhere between a bow and curtsy, in the absence of a larger audience to wave to.]
Ah, it's good to be able to do that again.

Apparently even without his memories of doing this very thing for a living, Barry's still got pretty strong instincts for it. And only once the song finishes does he smile and clap for her, walking out to meet her on the floor.]
Heh, you're definitely the real thing, ain't ya? That was great! Just like you'd expect from someone Sheryl recommended.
no subject
Thank you. I'm guessing Sheryl doesn't recommend many people - she seems like someone who would value ability.
[It's only a vague sense she's gotten, but that day in the hospital, she'd seemed much more enamoured with the idea of demonstrating her own skill than singing alongside them.]
no subject
Yeah, her standards are pretty high. I'm not too surprised you're as good as you are. I dunno how much I'm gonna be able to help ya improve, to be honest, but I'll do my best!
no subject
That's all I can ask. Besides, I think something like this has other benefits - being able to work with others and meet new people with their own talents and passions to share, for example.

[It's a little exciting to think about that, too, potentially being able to guide some new people into that world as well. Or whatever it is they can make of it here, when their relationship with the Near Shore is so strange.]

I don't think I've met them, no, but it's good to hear you've found some other strong talents so soon after opening.

[It's an important step, but having that good starting base is when the magic can really happen.]

Did you need anything else from me today, or should I just wait until you call for that gathering?

[Barry's all smiles as he extends his hand.]
Welcome aboard!
