I followed a recipe I found online.

So what was in that recipe? What ingredients did you use?

Mackerel...potatoes...flour...celery...I added carrots. And then salt and pepper.

When I came back to it.

You mean you left it? Why? And for how long?

It said to let it cook for a little while, so I went to do something else for...about an hour. I think maybe longer.

If you left it for an hour or longer then it's no wonder it turned out like that. You shouldn't leave for so long when you're cooking something.
