Can Shinki get sick?

[ A seemingly simple question, but one that's been clawing at him for days. The symptoms have become too painful to ignore, so he bites his tongue and seeks answers because unknown to him, his bloodlust has begun to manifest. ]

There was an incident with poisoned chocolates about a month ago... although, now that I think about it that would likely fall under blight as well. [Ayakashi chocolates are technically blight-related, but they sure as hell made him feel sick so that should still count for something.] You're welcome to test out poisons unrelated to blight or ayakashi if you want, but I don't think that's going to help you any.

Was there anything that could have triggered this, or did the symptoms start appearing seemingly out of nowhere?

Actually, let me phrase that a little more clearly: did the symptoms start as soon as you arrived here?

[He may not know Zero's situation, but he's learned enough from his own to relate. Whether it's an affliction that carries on to the afterlife, an inhuman body with unique needs, the effects of an ability they no longer understand... losing one's memories can be a serious problem, if they have something like that to worry about.]

Then you should consider the possibility that it's not something you contracted in this world. It may be something leftover from your past life.

[...and it's at this point that he decides to switch on the privacy settings. Theorycrafting he can discuss freely, but this particular theory isn't something he wants to air in public.]

A lingering hunger and thirst suggests to me that your body may be wanting for something you're not giving it. There's a god here who appears human, but is actually of another humanoid race with... unusual eating habits. If both gods and shinki are pulled from other worlds with equal consideration, then it's just as likely for a person like that to arrive here as a shinki. The problem is that we wouldn't be capable of remembering those facts, especially if we don't appear very different from normal humans.

That person also said that their temple provides for their unusual needs, though. I don't know if that would work automatically for shinki or not, but if your temple's kitchen or medicine cabinet has been stocking anything that seems out of place it may be worth looking into.

Failing that, you can try different things to see if your instincts tell you anything useful.

[Well, there's really no softening it.]

Human flesh.

That species has an identifying trait, though, so unless you've ever had black schlera around the eyes you're probably something different. Even if you did have that it still wouldn't be a guarantee.
[thank god, because Add would probably starve to death if he had to eat something as gross as that to survive...] There are a lot of possibilities, so don't do anything too reckless unless you're really sure of it.

Red schlera? Or just red irises?

[Ah, but there's an easier way of doing this. It's not like Add's odd appearance is much of a secret anyway.]

I'll show mine if you show yours.

Interesting. I guess it really is true about the eyes being the window to the soul, kukuku.

Unfortunately, something like that might not be useful for identifying the cause. You'd need to find someone else with the same affliction first, or it would have to be something that exists in this world.

[But laughter is the best medicine! That's another good saying.]

I'll keep an eye out as well. In return, I expect that you'll keep this information between us. [Not that it's his secret, but Kaneki probably wouldn't be too happy if rumours started floating around about a god that eats humans...]

Good.

It's Add, by the way. Feel free to let me know if you discover anything interesting.
