It seems not all gods are interested in the same objectives.

I wasn't seriously injured. And it does seem that some of them are motivated by very different goals.

I have to hope that no others have resources like his at hand.

Perhaps not, but with so many unpredictable developments, it seems unfortunate that the worst is always so unexpected.

It may be the nature of things. What you plan for can't be the worst; to be the worst, you need surprise.

Or perhaps it's just that we don't know this place well enough yet to truly be prepared ourselves.
