It seems strange that I should only come to you all when things are rough, but that appears to be my sole duty as of late.

I must start this message by apologizing for the behaviors of my brother. His actions were unwarranted and chaotic and I should have seen something like this coming from him. I'm embarrassed to say that we had no idea of what he was scheming, and for all the loss of life and the damages I am truly, greatly sorry.

That said, it pleases us to no end that so many of you new gods and shinki have worked so hard to protect our home and to clean up after the disaster that befell us. We are truly grateful to have good souls like you here with us. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Know that we do not plan to punish the other party involved in the destruction that has happened here. We had detained him and are keeping him under close watch for your safety as well as his own. Please understand that we have made the best choice that we can.

Again, we apologize for what has happened and we hope to be able to curb anything like this from ever happening again.

Thank you.

Those would be stronger words if you hadn't already gotten people killed before and come up with nothing but an apology to show for it. And if it looked like you were making any effort at all to speak to us outside of providing the most basic information about this place and sending us to do your work for you.

I can't speak for everyone, but I didn't fight those things for you, or any of the ones who bring us here. I did it to help us, the ones you've ripped from our own worlds and left here with barely enough knowledge to know heads from tails, or some with barely enough memories left to know themselves.

I'm not saying it isn't, but last I checked the Heavens aren't meant to be the ones doing the killing. If you can't do anything about it, don't claim you'll be able to stop it from happening again when you apologise, because it just makes the whole thing sound hollow.

I've gotten most of the answers I was looking for from others at this point, but recent events have just raised more. If wiping shinki's memories is supposedly for their own good, why are there ones now remembering things? What's the real reason you make them forget?

That's not reassuring, if even you have no idea what the hell's happening here. But only making contact when terrible things happen isn't going to make people trust you or want to help you find out.

Like I said, then, don't tell us you can stop it from happening again when you obviously know you can't. If "doing your best" is hardly better than nothing, then telling us that's how you're handling it is no reassurance at all.

I'm just hoping you'll be as ineffectual doing anything about that. Shinki deserve to know their lives, and whoever's doing this, even if it isn't you, has condemned gods to watching friends become shinki with no way to help them or remind them who they really are.

That's something, at least.

It's not much of an offer, then.

The last shinki I heard talking about it didn't sound hurt, like you claim they are when they remember things. All we know is that memories "hurt" shinki, but if there's a way to get them back without harm, then the only thing it's going to be detrimental to is the ridiculous traditions held here. Or are you going to say this is a bad thing without actually asking the shinki themselves?

[He's got a significant personal investment in shinki memory issues, so he can't really help but lash back at the idea that it's always a bad thing for them to remember.]

Then take some time to look into it before immediately assuming it's bad, if experience and what's happening now are at odds.
