We would like to express our gratitude to those who recently assisted in the events involving a forest within the Heavens. Although our investigation continues, we wish to share some of the things that we have already discovered with you.

First, the forest was under the control of a god who is unknown and unrecorded within the Heavens. With your help, this control has been broken, and we are protecting the forest against any further interference.

Second, we believe that this was not the first time a god unknown to the Heavens attempted entry. During the harvest moon viewing, an unknown god was present, although we became aware of their presence too late to apprehend them. Since two attempts have now been made, we must assume that the god responsible will continue trying.

We require your cooperation to deal with this pretender. Do not allow anyone but yourself and your shinki to enter the Heavens through your shrines. If you are approached by strange gods asking for any favors, or if you have any other relevant information, please contact Heaven's forces at once. Do not offer assistance to Heaven's enemies.

were any of the "old" gods captured by the forest?

It is possible.

If any were, neither they nor their shinki have reported it to us.

and at the moon viewing, did any of the old gods report being afflicted the same way we were?

Yes. Them and their shinki as well.

i see.

i ask because i had the opportunity to speak with one of the humans working on the spell within the forest. his answers made me believe that us "new" gods may be integral to the plans of their leader, whether that leader is mortal or god.

I have wondered if this targeted newly reincarnated gods.

[After all, Ebisu, too, found the forest threatening his temple. Amaterasu's own reincarnation was over a decade ago....]

What did he say about new gods, exactly?

that their goal is to create them. truly new gods, who will care for the world and "set things right."

he said that they have done it already, that all the new gods need is their faith, now.

Then perhaps this unknown god has been newly created.

Such a god should not be able to control power enough to challenge the Heavens.

"should not," perhaps, but there is a great deal that "should not" be happening at this time, is there not?

from the man's words, it sounded as though this new faction intends to lie in wait, gathering power until they gain enough strength to challenge the heavens directly. their followers wish for the complete destruction of the old gods and the installation of the new, and if a god has been born from that wish, then--

[She has seen this before, when she was nearly Amaterasu's apparent age. She has watched a traitorous prince bend the knee and bide his time, waiting for the opportune moment to strike--]

please understand that i do not make this suggestion lightly, lady amaterasu, but i believe it would be prudent to prepare your forces for war.

To gather enough power to challenge us directly, they will need to show their hand against our followers.

But it is possible that a god has been born from such a wish. We will bring to bear whatever force proves necessary to defeat them, in the end.

what of the blight spell released during the meeting of the gods? could that have been an attack against the followers of heaven?

regardless, my answer to your question is yes. i intend to continue my own investigation of the situation to the best of my ability, but if the heavens would avail me of a portion of their resources to aid in this endeavor, i would be much obliged.

If that were the purpose, then the choice of target did not make it obvious. However, that does not mean it is impossible.
