It's a holiday that steams from the fall harvest season along with religious celebrations at the time. Once referred to as All Hallows Eve before becoming Halloween.

Huh. I understand the harvest part at least. Doesn't seem like much harvesting is going on now, though.

Well in recent times it's more of a holiday to dress up and get treats instead of celebrating a harvest.
