I know that adjusting to a new name is a serious undertaking for most people, but the common use of an individual's god name does not seem to be wide spread. Admittedly, my sample size is still relatively small, but most of the other gods I have met thus far have introduced themselves with their mortal names first, and then given their god name second. Is this because many have not yet adjusted to the new name, or are we not supposed to use our god names?

I'm making the adjustment myself, and I think it would be easier if I was a little more informed about what my relationship with my god name is meant to be. I, personally, am perfectly comfortable with dropping my old title in favor of Hermes, but if it's something meant for followers only, I can adjust my expectations accordingly.

That's irrelevant. That name was given to the shinki by their god. It's symbolic. I don't care if it doesn't work for another god, if I heard someone calling Ekko Kyouki, there would be words. If you want to call him by a nickname, come up with your own.

Names have meaning. For most of you, they just seem to be words arbitrarily thrown around, but for me, there is meaning and importance in a name. Some are titles to be earned, like Speed of Sound Sonic, and others are personal, such as the name given to a child by their parent, or names exchanged between lovers. It's not that I'm passionate about them, I just place a different level of importance on them as compared to the majority.

And yet it never occurred to you that people here don't want to get rid of their mortal names, specifically because, they are not "words arbitrarily thrown around", but because they place an importance on them?

A much bigger and personal one, rather than a mantle of deity from unfamiliar pantheon, that stopped being important 2000 years ago.

Are you stupid? That was a general statement, and you just decided to take it personally.

Greek gods stopped being relevant in worship around 1400 years ago, if you really needed to know that.

Then why do I still have followers, if the gods are no longer relevant?

New agers. Wiccans. Pagans. History nuts.

Those are still people, regardless of your feelings of them. As long as I am still important to someone, that is enough.
