[The camera shows a view of what appears to be one of the old, abandoned shrines that litter certain areas of the Far Shore. The post comes in the evening, as shown by the golden, slanting quality of the light filtering in through the trees.]

[The Medicine Seller is sitting on the roots of an old tree near an abandoned torii gate, with his legs politely crossed and his hands folded in his lap. His expression betrays nothing at all -- there's no hint of his usual small, secretive smile, but there's no fear, either, or sadness, or anger. There's just... nothing.]

I am afraid it would seem... that Hyacinthus, known to some as "Donut", no longer walks among us.

[One slim hand rises to brush against his sternum through the layers of clothes that he wears, against the spot where his name was before.]

And I am without a name.

[Which does put him in a position he hasn't been in before, until this point:]

[He has a choice, perhaps.]

I wish, if possible, to serve a god who hunts often for Ayakashi. If any such god should wish to name me before the Heavens choose on my behalf... the matter can be discussed.

[He bows politely to the camera, before the feed cuts out.]

It's still not something I'd leave public, but this is enough if that's all you're interested in.

Nekhbet was the patron of the original Necropolis, or city of the dead. That turned into a more general funerary role, and that's more like the position I've taken over. Those dead or dying, or those left to grieve are the people I most often get prayers about or from.

I don't have some grand, optimistic or naive purpose like some of the people here. But I've seen enough people pray for salvation and not be heard. So I do what I can to help the ones who pray to the figure I'm standing in for, because they don't deserve to be punished for the upheaval that's happening out of their sight here.

The living, then, are of limited relevance to you?

I wouldn't say that - hell, I get more prayers from the alive and grieving than I do the dying. And obviously there are people who make their prayers to whoever will listen, whether they're relevant to my supposed domain or not. I don't treat those any differently.

How do you choose which prayers you're willing to answer, then?

The more desperately they need the help, the more likely I am to answer.

And how is that determined?

[revolutionfalcon]

If it's something they need done immediately, if it's something they have no way of doing on their own. It depends on the prayer as to what I look at.

What sort of shinki have you found yourself... the most adept at working together with?

[revolutionfalcon]

People who are capable in their own right, and will work together with me rather than wanting to submit to orders. Someone who's fully willing to question my judgement when it comes down to that. So someone I can work alongside more than anything.

You prefer a strong will.

Yes. In anyone I work closely with.

Most gods seem to have a strong preference about that.

One way or the other.

I've seen more than enough of the ones who have a strong preference the other way to know that.

You dislike them.

[Fairly obvious, but he's sort of distantly curious as to why.]

I dislike anyone who abuses their power over others.

There are a great many of those. Especially among those who seek and hold power.

I know that. I've encountered more than enough of them.
