Hey - so this temple.

[Doku has the camera aimed away from himself and it's a bit lopsided, but the place looks abandoned. It's not a very large temple, besides. He's at least learned that taking video means he doesn't have to text, so there's that.]

Any gods live here? Askin' 'cuz there's Soulless shinki around here and that seems like it. Just them.

[Apparently this is where Soulless shinki reside until they're assigned to a God.]

There's got to be a dozen or so - at least ten, I'm sure.

If that place is reasonably easy to find, I can probably find it myself and take him there if he's interested. I'll ask him another time.

I suppose there are a few of us who have taken them on for a while, so that's not a surprise. As long as they're not trying to cram some ridiculous amount into a temple together.

Give me a second and I'll show you a video a bit further out so you can find it yourself. I don't think they're cramming a bunch in here particularly. I just think some of them sleep in beds and others have empty beds but they're not sleeping there - or just not often.

[Then he backs up and scans the area for Shun, then turns around where he came from.]

Good, I recognise some of that scenery. I should be able to find it next time I'm patrolling.

Sounds like it's at least passable conditions, which is the part most people would be concerned about.

I might come back and check on its condition too, honestly. They don't deserve to live in squalor. No one does in a place like this, with plenty of nicer temples they could be living in.

I didn't know there were patrols though.

If you suggested clearing out a larger abandoned temple for them, I doubt you'd have a shortage of people wanting to help with it.

There aren't organised patrols. I do it out of habit, I know Bishamon does that sort of thing and there are probably others as well, but it's all on our own terms.

Nobody's going to begrudge you taking it up yourself if you don't patrol already.

I don't patrol already but you make me want to. Kinda nostalgic.

There's been no attacks or anything out of the ordinary yet, so they're probably fine.

[Possibly not the kind of "seeing how they were doing" intended, but oh well.]

I wouldn't know how it feels to be nostalgic about having to patrol.

I never expected to turn into the Old Soldier sort, but here I am. Castle defense was a big deal.

Castle defense isn't my area, but it's not like you're the first person I've met here who isn't from a modern era.

The doc was working on some pretty advanced technology stuff back at the castle. Problem was he was combining it with magic, which you're not supposed to do... Now that I think about it, that must be what this thing is anyway, huh?

[He points with his free hand at the phone.]

For the purposes of this conversation, having technology close to the year it is here. My world would be a good way into the future from this.

Magical technology? Probably. If it actually improves things, I don't see what the problem with combining them would be.

It's considered taboo where I come from, to mix magic and technology. I guess it's not here. I think the reasons had to do with specific artifact from my world, so maybe it won't cause problems here.

Anyway, I recognize a lot of things around here when it comes to the technology - cars, computers, video cameras, a lot of the factory machinery.

Unless that artifact was here, obviously not. I wouldn't put it past people from other worlds to have brought magical technology with them, either.

You recognise all that, and yet castles are still strategically important enough where you're from to need defending?

Yep. If it's weird to you, then I guess it's weird. It's most this one scientist bringing all the technology in, so that's not really all that surprising.

Having your world's entire technological state resting on one scientist sounds risky.

Why do you say that? I mean, the guy's weird and he does things I don't like, but it's what he's getting ordered to do by the lady in charge. For all I know he's brought this technology stuff in from somewhere else and he's not the genius that came up with any of it -- he's got a whole team helping him after all.

One person having that much power over anything gives the chance to abuse it. It depends on how satisfied he is with just keeping on listening to "the lady in charge".

Not like I trust him with much in the first place. You're right though - he went missing not long before I arrived here so who knows what he's been up to lately.

It could be anything, but it's not as if anything can be done about it from here.
