I'm curious about the other shinki here. From my understanding, we all are given unique forms or "vessels" which are used to serve our gods. These vessels can range from a variety of items, though they are primarily intended to be used as weapons or protection against Ayakashi. However, I haven't seen any lists of examples or surveys regarding what these forms may be. It's difficult to gauge what to expect without any examples to draw upon. A more comprehensive list of shinki forms and abilities would also be useful to newer gods and shinkis who may not be certain of what they're capable of, or how a more unorthodox form might be used.

If anyone is willing to share, I wouldn't mind keeping such a list up to date.

Of course, identifying details may be removed upon request. I'm more interested in knowing the variety of forms currently available and which ones are the most common type. Information from the "new" shinki would be preferred, as opposed to the "older" shinki from before the changes in the Heavens, though I'll gladly accept your information as a separate data group.

On an unrelated note, I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's familiar with or currently a cyborg or sentient machine. I've already met a couple of you. Perhaps there are others here?

Does that mean you're looking for AI? That's probably going to be a hard search seeing as some of us are dead. (The gods on the other hand...)

I know I'm no good in a fight but it helps to have someone who can locate ayakashi, right? Kind of like a weird combination of ayakashi-centric sonar/radar.

And that's exactly why it's interesting to me, keke. Can an artificial lifeform "die"? Can they hold what the heavens would define as a soul? If so, that would be a tremendous accomplishment for its creator.

A machine god... or a machine goddess, I'm sure would also be a great accomplishment, although I'm not entirely certain of what criteria there are for picking gods. It's difficult to say if a god or shinki would be more impressive without knowing how gods are chosen.

I see, so you act as more of a tactician? An interesting approach. [Maybe that's something he could do...? Although, he doesn't have a screen or anything to display information with, but he could still act as a second pair of eyes at least...]

You know... that's actually a good question now that I think about it. But then you get into the ethics of robotics and if AI has a soul. And what a soul is to begin with. It's a lot to consider. But if it's okay, I'd like to know why the interest?

You're right, by the way. I'm really more of a tactician. Like a support role instead of a frontline DPS class. I guess that puts things in perspective better.

It makes sense. Even in battle, having only combat units without proper organization or leadership can only bring you so far. I would've assumed the god would be responsible for the leadership role, but I suppose not every god would be suited to such a thing. In those situations, a shinki suited to organizing and analyzing a situation would be more useful than an ordinary warrior or weapon in the long run.

I guess it depends on what kind of god you are and what kind of shinki, too. We've had some luck with being able to help out this girl who was looking for her ring thanks to my scanning but apart from that, I'm pretty useless in a fight.

As a shinki, at least.

So I wouldn't lie if I said I wish we had someone more combat capable.

Someone else suggested that as well—perhaps not all gods are intended for combat, so it wouldn't make sense to give them weapons they won't use. It would be better for them to simply avoid dangerous situations.

If you're able to scan for something like a ring, I imagine you'd be able to detect an ayakashi quite easily as well. Being able to identify and warn of a threat in advance is useful for avoiding those combat situations that you're unsuited for, so that doesn't seem like such a bad deal to me. In a way, that method is more effective than fighting the ayakashi head on.

but about my scanning

I guess it's safe to say I'm probably not that good yet. Sure, spotting a ring was kind of easy but only when I was on the same floor as it was. You just kind of get this vague feeling that you can see something somewhere but you don't really know where exactly it is? Am I making sense?

Ayakashi on the other hand, I can't really pick them up yet. I haven't tried but they might be harder since they're kind of alive.

I see. So you find it more difficult to detect something like an ayakashi...? I'd expect it to be the opposite, if we're comparing something alive and moving to an inanimate object. A motionless and lifeless item should be harder to distinguish from its surroundings. Of course, I don't have you abilities, so I could just be thinking of it the wrong way.

Are you able to detect surrounding lifesigns at all, human or otherwise? Or maybe I should say "god, shinki or otherwise"? [it doesn't really matter]

I can sort of pick them out in a crowd. It's easier when I'm in my shinki form. Out of it, it's like that feeling you might get when someone's trying to sneak up behind you? You just know there's someone there. But it's not like you can feel individual pulses or heartbeats or stuff like that. Same goes for gods.

They stick out. Like something that isn't supposed to be there or something that screams 'danger'. But IDK if this is because I'm inexperienced but I can't zero in on them. I just get a sort of gut feeling. Maybe I need more training.

Interesting. So you might say it's less like radar and more like a metal detector. It doesn't give you the exact location, but it lets you know when something of interest is within range. Is that closer?

In that case, how does detecting an inanimate item work? Are you able to search for specific shapes, materials, etc., or does it work in some other way?

Yes, I think that's probably a closer assessment. A metal detector. I never really thought about it that way before now.

I can't really tell you what shows up on my display because I've never really seen it before but I can tell you that I sort of feel for it, if that makes sense. Like with the ring? I had to know it was a ring to start with. So it's more of you get a general reading of humans, other shinki, gods and ayakashi but if I want to find something specific, I need to know what I'm looking for.

Perhaps it would be better to ask your god for those details. It does make sense, though, and I'm not too surprised you have difficulty explaining it. Becoming something wholly inhuman is an experience most would find difficult to comprehend, let alone explain. [He doesn't have a whole lot of experience with turning into his vessel, but it did freak him the hell out the first time around. Getting used to something like that... he's not sure if he'll ever be able to.]

Your ability sounds like it has quite a lot of potential, regardless. If an opportunity arises, you should consider testing your capabilities further.

I have every intention of doing so if that means making my job and my god's job easier. But I'd rather not have to do it on the field. The last thing I'd want is to end up getting someone in trouble just because I tried to do something new on the fly.
