I don't use bullshit flowery language like that, and she already knows I'll kick her ass.
[voice]
... Has anyone explained to you about stinging?
[New shinki. Hakkai holds back a sigh: he had promised Yukine to help educate the newcomers. Learning about what a sting is might be one of the most important things they'll learn.]
[voice]
Hasn't come up before.
[voice]
As shinki, we're meant to be our gods' moral compasses. That means, if we do something or are forced to do something that we feel guilty for -- that we feel is wrong -- we and our gods will both be affected with blight. It's painless for shinki, although you'll be able to see a mark, usually on your neck or back.
[Not that he's had plenty of opportunity to see where blight marks appear on a shinki's body, so far. Certainly not.]
For gods, it causes pain, which is why it's known as "stinging" your god.
[voice]
[But uhhh, that's. News. She can't think of anything she would have felt guilty for and hurt Sharak, so that's good?]
Somehow I don't think we're gonna have that problem.
[voice]
[--and, leaving that excessively cheerful tone aside, he'll sober again. Mirrors are very helpful, if you're not sure. He's started to recognize it in himself.]
It's much better if you don't. But there's one advantage, in that it means our gods can't use us against our will without hurting themselves too.
[voice]
Guess so. Would still rather do the job myself, not leave it up to some magic safety lock.
[voice]
It's not much of a safety measure for us, but I can live with being a learning experience.
