So last I knew, it was 2001. Because I know how the world works, I know there's *definitely* been movies, TV shows, music, comics, all kinds of things created since then. I don't care about the garbage though - I want to know about the best of the best that's happened in the last couple of years.

Okay and if you have the misfortune to have been born pre... steam engines and light bulbs let's say, how in the name of every god here did you entertain yourselves back then? I guess there's always musical theater and like... Virgil kind of poetry. Was that it?

Rakugo is quite delightful no matter what era! [ Sooooo she's from modern times. She is also literally a WWII warship that carried sailors from that era, not that she knows it because she's a shinki. But what her sailors like, she liked. So, uh. Yeah.

Just call her grandma or something. ] It is an artful form of storytelling, and the tales are often whimsical. It is a shame that such performances are rarer these days.

That's basically Virgil style poetry then. Do people at least wear cool costumes?

The performers are allowed a fan and perhaps one more prop or so! Their true talent lies in how they inflect their tone. A rakugo master can even act up to twenty different characters in one recital, all with distinct voices!

It does so make the performance ideal for listening when one is working on something else. [ Like an audio book. Or a podcast. ]

You do realize years mean absolutely nothing between completely different universes, right? Even if this world is similar to your own, it's not the same place. Just because something happened here doesn't mean it will or has happened in your own world.

I thought anyone who could read would be able to tell that I started off with "Last I knew". All I was asking for was some movie titles to watch or music to listen to since the Spice Girls aren't hip anymore.

Poetry. My brother was fond of tanka, but I wrote more haiku.

If we had the free time, my friends used to like going out to the entertainment districts where the courtesans worked. Even if you weren't in the mood to do much more with the girls than look at them, they always had a way of keeping things lively and making sure everyone was getting along.

There's always the theatre as well. I haven't been to see any kabuki since I arrived here, but I know there are still places to see performances in the city.

I've never been very in tune with popular culture.

Well, I'm not sure how I used to entertain myself before arriving here, but gardening has been a great for passing the time!

I'm pretty sure my time is somewhere far in this world's future? From what I can tell.

Fun ways to entertain yourselves in a bygone era include things such as rugby, reading, gambling, absinthe and of course the occasional stop in to an opium den, but I hear things like that are 'bad for you' or something. I preferred whiskey and boxing, myself.

There's always going to balls or plays as well. Or you know, swimming, going for picnics or bicycle rides. Really, there was plenty to do.

You won't hear that sort of 'bad for you' nonsense coming out of my mouth, certainly. Whiskey and boxing at the same time, or separately? Either sounds like one hell of a ride.

Balls as in... Parties? Why would that sort of thing happen here? Picnics are apparently done to death here already.

People-watching, mainly. Like window-shopping at the mall sort of thing. Music's very interesting in just how diverse it is, though. What kind of music are you talking about then?
