I guess this is the best way to ask -- has anyone else noticed some of the shinki act a lot more reserved than others? Not like a quiet person. That's not a bad thing. Like it's hard to talk to them about themselves and they don't remember a name other than the one their god gave them?

Ah, if it matters, I'm a god. I'm just trying to figure out how I can best help my shinki. He's my responsibility after all.

Why do you think it's a spell in the first place? I was told this was like an afterlife place.

Not all of us are dead. As for why I think it's a spell, though, it's because our appearance here isn't it at all like the way normal gods and shinki come to this heaven.

As far as I know, not even Amaterasu understands what's causing it.

I take it Amaterasu is the one in charge then?

From what I've gathered, normally gods are created through belief. If they happen to die, they are reborn as the same god, but in the form of a child with no memory of their past.

Shinki are chosen from wandering ghosts on Earth and given names by the god who chooses them.

Amaterasu is in charge here, yes.

A child... Shit. That's even part of what this Kshitigarbha guy's job is supposed to be. Hopefully I can talk to Amaterasu about that.

Wandering ghosts huh... And those wandering ghosts never become Gods here? When it's not the normal way, I mean.

I don't think you're obligated to consider reborn gods children under your protection. Unless you want to, of course.

What does Kshitigarbha hold authority over, precisely?

Something about guiding souls out of the underworld and in particular deceased children. So apparently I can go down there. I haven't tried it yet.

[And no mention of Kougaiji instilling some respectability in his stupid ass, but he's definitely thinking it.]

You should probably bring backup if you do try.

I'm not a god, of course, but if I understand correctly then you'll be spending most of your time answering your followers' prayers. Don't worry about the underworld until someone asks you to bring a soul out.

I'm not sure if my curiosity can hold out that long. We'll see - especially if whatever followers Kshitigarbha has aren't praying for much.

That way, we won't waste time looking for you.

Not that he was entirely joking. Last time, they'd gone down after a missing god.]

Hopefully by the time you've planned your trip, you'll have made an acquaintance or two.

Or become more comfortable with the phones. They do take practice.

I'm still figuring out the lower ranks on that list, but top of it for now is learning what this God-Shinki relationship means and what my responsibility is to this person in my care now.

It's hard to say, if you have one of the quiet ones. The relationship, and the responsibility, are considerably different with a shinki who has a mind of their own.

As it is, looking after your shinki's health and safety is probably all you'll be able to do for them.

Yeah, you're right. It's a handful whether it's a kid or an adult you're looking after, that's for sure.
