Humans, from my experience, do not handle well what they do not understand. Where I'm from, mental illness is treated almost as if you have the plague.
But if your friends already understand you, I doubt they would hate you. They already like you. They aren't going to change their opinion just because you're actually a bird. And I doubt anyone else here would hate you for that reason, either.
Imagine being a child on the near shore, able to see what goes on here on the far shore. But every time you try to tell someone, they don't believe you.
Japan does not look favorably on what they consider to be mental illness.
I was human, once. But I finally found answers to what I was seeing, and decided that world was much more suitable for me than the one I was in. The people that belonged to that world actually believed me.

What I can say won't take away the pain and shock of what you've seen. Only time can do that. But know that there are those willing to support and help when you need it.
