It seems that today is the day for grim announcements. I regretfully join the ranks of those reporting loss.

To those who care or may be concerned, my shinki Ekko is gone. I can no longer sense his presence, emotionally or spiritually, and his room has been left vacant. It's a bit less dramatic of an exit than those of the gods that have left, but I thought his friends would like to be informed.

The temple is just very quiet without him around. I didn't think it would be.

I'm sure you were used to him being there. Anyone would miss the presence of someone they'd grown accustomed to seeing every day, I think.

We hadn't exactly known each other that long, but I suppose you have a fair point. It had been a long time since I lived with another person, I had forgotten what it was like.

What happens now? Do the gods assign you a new shinki?

Presumably, as the shinkis whose gods have disappeared have been reassigned. Or I could find one willing to nora, but I'd really rather not take that route for my primary shinki.

Yes, I don't blame you there. I've heard noras are generally looked down upon.

I think it's primarily the old gods who feel this way, as many of us who have been imported have laxer attitudes regarding it. I feel that weapons should be treated with respect, regardless of who they belong to and who is using them, and shinki even more so since they are actually people.

However, relying solely on a nora would put me at a slight disadvantage. They could be recalled by their other god or gods at anytime, which would leave me vulnerable.

Not that I doubt my ability to defend myself, but my mundane sword is ultimately ineffective against ayakashi.

I suppose that makes sense. I imagine everyone has their own thoughts on the matter. It hasn't come up in my own experience yet. Truthfully, I'm not sure what I'd do if I were presented with the choice.

It's very likely that you may never have to worry about it. I do not believe there are many noras around, and I would presume that such contracts aren't made lightly. I would imagine they are limited to the heat of battle, when the situation is at its most dire.

That's true. And I've been getting along fine with my current shinki as it is.

I wouldn't consider it a replacement so much as a supplement. I carry no less than three different types of weapons on me at all times, personally. You never know what kind of a fight you're going to get into, so it helps to be prepared.

I think that's a possibility. One case would be that they return from the moment they were plucked, I think.

I hope not. I hope that when shinki are returned, they're given a little time to try everything again.

It's better if we go back, even if we die there. Sensei made it pretty clear that dragging souls into this world disrupts the flow of things back where we come from. Ameterasu and her lackeys are fuckin with the order of things

I wouldn't know about souls and the order of things. I know most people aren't happy with Amaterasu, and I don't blame them. I'm not all that happy about this, myself.

But you're probably right. It's probably better that he's gone home, even if it's only to die.

Ah, I see what you mean. Different shinki have different capabilities, just like the difference between carrying a sword, a bow, or both.

And yes, it's working out well for both of us so far.
