Here's a thought: The Heavens and gods have worked in a certain way for beyond memory. Gods die and then they come back as younger versions of themselves, souls are gathered as shinki to aid them, and the ayakashi are set against them. There is a balanced rhythm to this place and how it all worked.

And then it didn't. Something happened, the balance was broken, the gods died and nothing came back. So what happened? A new way to fill in the missing pieces appeared. Us.

Now, I'm just theorizing out loud that this system is a mutation caused when a body, or The Heavens as it turns out, feels it's under attack and trying to keep itself alive and functioning. In order to do that, it has pushed to fill in the spots that it has lost too fast by doing the unthinkable - by grabbing people like us.

Does that mean there's an underlying sickness? A rot in the system that the pull of faith or belief is trying to heal through us? Or is this just an experiment to see if we are able to shore up the problems inside a collapsing system?

Any other theories, or am I just thinking too much on this?

It was said that when our home was torn asunder, the smith Li Zhenyi took up her tools and crafted from the bones of what was left of our homes an Ark. Her lover, the swordsman Peng Junjie gathered who was left together and urged them onto the Ark to take them to a new place. But Li Zhenyi remained behind, to use her skills to repair and rebuild so there will be a home for us to return to.

We left in the Ark.

...Yeah, if only things were that simple.

'A boat?' I suppose it could be called that, though in all honestly the term 'space ship' would be more appropriate. We fled across space and time, not just across waters.

Sure, you'd be surprised how many things you can sail ships on. Besides water. [Like what the Item World Pirates, for example!]

But uh, I suppose over time is kinda a new one.

Yes, I guess that is true. I am being a little picky for no reason; forgive me.

She was a near goddess in her own right; I suppose in her eyes that would be mere details when she worked the Ark to travel as such.

Did she built it on her own? Something like that seems like it would taken forever.

[And spare time is not really something you would have a lot of when avoiding impending doom.]

Yes. As the story goes she was blessed by the gods for the task, so she had a Divine talent.

Though given that there are a few Dixingren Talents that are on par to that of gods, there is a cynical part of me that believes that she just had the right Talent to create the Ark.

It's hard to ride on something that crashed. I had seen the surviving pieces, and I do know that the Emperor's throne is made from part of the hull, but no one really had the skills to place it together again.

From what I was told, yes. Luckily the planet we ended up on was a place we could live with only little adjustment.

But yeah, I wish our problems could be solved that easily.

Maybe not so much for the people already living there, but we survived and adapted. Of sorts.

Maybe you will find a path to survive?
