So... this banquet thing. Is it mandatory? Because I honestly can't think of anything I'd rather do less than put on uncomfortable clothes and be in a big crowd of people I don't know all night. Anybody want to have an anti-banquet where we sit around and watch sentai shows or giant robot anime or play video games instead? Can that be a thing?

I see. I'm sure if I could watch someone play, I could figure it out.

We had nothing of the sort 800 years ago! If we wanted to do battle with vast hordes of enemies, we had to gird ourselves in armor and ride forth to do it in person.

I would have been more suited to it!

Alas, I was born of too noble blood for a simple title and there can only be one King of Knights. Still, I made a name for myself in the Crusades, so most overlook my failures as a king.

It would indeed! It's a bit of a relief to be able to speak my name openly because, to be quite honest, I'm not any good at hiding it.

Why would you need to hide it in the first place?

It's quite a long story! Suffice to say I had been summoned forth in a battle where keeping one's identity a secret was necessary to keep one's opponent at a disadvantage.

[And he blew it less than an hour into the whole thing.]

I guess I can understand that. There are definitely times when it's best to be undercover.

Absolutely. But I've never really been one for stealth. I've watched a few spy movies now and it all seems terribly exciting, but I feel I'd be the one to compromise the operation.

Yeah, I know a guy like that back home. His name's Ryuji.

Is that so? Is he a more straightforward sort of fellow? Or simply one that enjoys a good fight and has no interest in waiting for the right time for one?

I'm purely the latter, myself. Were I a bit more of the former, I may have lived to see old age.

Suffice to say it's a very strange situation!

To use terms I am only just beginning to understand, it is a bit as if someone "saved a copy" of Richard the Lionheart and later someone else used magecraft to "download" it.

I shall have to learn how to explain Saint Graphs next. I think video games will help with that.

Or perhaps I'm just making an excuse to play video games.
